Just to toss in an interesting side bar, many Native Americans actually revered homosexuals.

Here are a couple of reviews on Amazon of a book describing the treatment of homosexuals by Native Americans. I didn't go further and dig up any more references becuase I don't think it is necessary for this discussion.

Quote:
The spirit and the flesh: Sexual diversity in American

Indian culture (Hardcover)
by Walter L Williams (Author)

Amazon.com
Walter L. Williams's excellent research has produced one

of the most extensive studies of the berdache culture

among Native Americans. Unlike the larger American

society, Native Americans historically have respected, and

in many tribal nations venerated, homosexuals. Williams

explains the berdache as a custom, its social roles, and

the berdache history, including its introduction to the

European concept of sin and intolerance of sexual

diversity. The word berdache applies almost exclusively to

males, mainly because historical records only relate

dealings with aboriginal males, but Williams also includes

a chapter on female sexual diversity, using the word

amazon to describe these often warriorlike women. --This

text refers to the Paperback edition.

From Publishers Weekly
Williams, an ethnohistorian at the University of Southern

California, presents a fascinating and thorough study of

American Indian acceptance of sexual diversity. Drawing on

interviews with Native Americans, anthropologists and

historians, Williams documents how tribal cultures revered

the "berdache"any man who "does not fill a society's

standard man's role, who has a nonmasculine character."

Many American Indian communities believed that some

members belonged to an "alternative gender" neither male

nor female, their identities determined by spiritual

inclination, not sex. Berdaches were treated as sacred and

held ceremonial roles as psychic healers, "medicine men"

and prophets. Williams also illustrates how European

settlers in North and South America sought to repress the

berdache tradition and how it went underground, reemerging

after the rebirth of Native American culture and the rise

of gay liberation. The only flaws in this enlightening

book are the author's tendency to generalize about Western

homophobia and his too brief treatment of female

counterparts of berdaches.

au, why do you keep trying to change the subject?

No one has been making claims either way.

BTW, not only males are homosexual, and not all male to male sex involves anal sex.

So, taking the a$$hole out of the equation for a moment, my question stands....

Why do you consider homosexual sex an unnatural act?

Male and female equipment and general dispositions just seem to be so much more compatible, IMO.

Nope! Thats what institutions like churches schools are for, so that they can define and reinforce the norms that society creates. Its really a self proclaiming prophecy. where we create these constraints and then have certain institutions reinforce those norms. We keep creating the same perceptions on things such as homosexuality instead of redefining our view on it.

What's this "we" **** . . . you got a mouse in your pocket?

In fact, many ancient, pre-christian societies in the western tradition casually accepted homosexuality. The condemnation of homosexuality is not unique to the Judeo-Christian tradition, but the Judeo-Christian tradition is definitely the source of the homophobia in our society.

Peddling a little christian propaganda here, are ya?

Don't blame it on Jesus. Blame it on the guy who drew the picture.

Unless someone thinks he drew from memory.

au, no need to be so insulting.
Are you trying to goad me?

You've neither my father nor am I saying whether I believe in something or not.

I've stated repeatedly I am remaining neutral and am not asking to be convinced or unconvinced of anything....it's very frustrating when a poster cannont be bothered to comprehend the words of someones posts.

If, in your opinion I sound like a 2 year old, you sound like someone who says "because I said so" or "because that's just how it is" because they have either never spent any time asking themselves why, or honestly have no proper answer.

Now, if you don't know why something is "unnatural" just say so. Don't waste my time by saying "well, just because"

I am not trying to be insulting. However, it is frustrating to be asked why over and over. I stated time after time that it IMO it is an unnatural act. Whether you accept that or not is your prerogative

IMO or not, Homosexuality occurs in other species... naturally.

Dogs, dolphins etc.

I think your real honest opinion should be that it simply isn't YOUR nature.

I have to argue against the "homophobe fighting the inner homo" argument so often proposed as reasons for hating gay people. I doubt you could ever argue that someone is rascist against african americans because he/she secretly thinks he/she might be black. True there are the frat boy clones that choose to gay bash then go home and bang their roommate, but I doubt its as widespread as people would like to believe.

Sadly enough, sometimes people just hate other people. Why? Many reasons. For one it's easier to villify and blame your problems on someone different than you. It makes it easier to dehumanize a person/group of people when you don't see yourself as one of them.

Secondly people naturally are afraid of things they don't understand. Heterosexuals may find it hard to empathize with gays cause they have no desire to sleep with other men while gays may find it hard to empathize with straights cause they've never wanted to sleep with women.

People find prejudice with or without religion. In fact I would say that religion is tailored to represent pre-existing hatred/prejudice towards a group.
