New musical in rehearsal.

Oliver.

Could be interesting as our local state Member of Parliment is named Bill Sykes. This show is full of children. Rolling Eyes

http://www.mmuds.org.au/

Mr. Bumble, the parish beadle, enters. (The dictionary defines a
beadle as an inferior parish officer in England having a variety of
duties, as the preservation of order in church service, the
chastisement of petty offenders, etc.) He is accompanied by the Widow
Corney, the Workhouse Mistress. Mr. Bumble hands out the day's meagre food to the boys.

I never knew what a "beadle" was till now, my life is complete!

I saw this movie (musical) in 1968 - it won a number of awards. It was one of the best things I've ever seen. I bought the movie last year and even though it wasn't quite the way I remembered, it was still marvellous.

Funny about your MP's name - I always think of this movie when I hear Sykes, Fagan, Nancy, and Oliver Smile

I hope you enjoy it, if you go.

Anything that has nothing to do with children mac, or their "stage" mothers.

I think I'll hang out with the makeup ladies and bitch about people. (they call themselves the "bitches of Eastwick" so... my kind of people)

The make-up ladies sound like my kind of people too.

I know it's boys in Oliver, but this comes to mind anyway:

Little girls
Little girls
Everywhere I turn I can see them
Little girls
Little girls
Night and day I eat, sleep and breathe them

I'm an ordinary woman with feelings
I'd like a man to nibble on my ear
But I'll admit no man has bit
So how come I'm the mother of the year?

Little cheeks
Little teeth
Everything around me is little
If I wring
Little necks
Surely I will get an acquittal

Some women are dripping with diamonds
Some women are dripping with pearls
Lucky me! Lucky me!
Look at what I'm dripping with
Little girls

How I hate
Little shoes
Little socks
And each little bloomer
I'd have cracked years ago
If it weren't for my sense of humor

Some day I'll step on their freckles
Some night I'll straighten their curls
Send a flood
Send the flu
Anything that you can do to little girls

Some day I'll land in the nut house
With all the nuts and the squirrels
There I'll stay til the prohibition of
Little girls.

What a coincidence! My wife and I went to the Berkeley Repertory theater today to go see Oliver Twist, because our friend's niece is in the show. She, Jennifer Ikeda) plays Nancy, and her boyfriend (Steven Boyer - comedian) plays Noah Claypole/Tom chitling. It was really a great show with enough lines from Dickens and the characters, such as Fagan, to help one recall the story. They had singing, some musical instrument playing, and the costumes were very good. The sadistic black comedy as well as humour mixed into this classic tale.

After the show, Jennifer and Steven joined us for dinner.

A pleasurable day.
