sawx picked up where they left off last year when they dominated the NL, by spanking atlanta 13-3 in the 1st game of another day-nighter.

dice-K pitched 8 strong innings, gave up 9 hits, 3 runs, struck out 6.

lowell put the game out of reach with a grand salami in the 5th.
lugo, youk, and wily-mo also went yard...

watched the start of the NYY-NYM game.
yankee bad luck continues as they lost yet another starter to injury...

the braves killed us in the second game last night, but we bounced back today and beat 'em 6-3.

the rookie gabbard pitched 5 solid innings (6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 7 K's), then 5 relievers polished off the last 4.
pap was a little shaky, but struck out the side in the 9th.

youk (3 for 3 with a dinger and a double) has a 13-game hitting streak, and is now hitting .340...

wake & pals got thumped by the bronx bombers monday night, but we took it to them last night, limiting that vaunted offense to 4 measly hits.

tavarez was very good (5-2/3 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs).
manny & lowell provided the fireworks.
youk's streak is up to 15 games -- he is LOCKED IN.

tonight -- schilling vs pettitte.

sawx have won 31 of 45 (.689 winning %)...

schilling stank up the joint.
looked like he was throwing BP...

after a 2-hour rain delay, the sawx got back to the business of winning yesterday, trouncing texas 10-6.

the top 4 batters were a combined 7-for-18 with 5 ribbies and 4 runs scored.

the only reason the game was close was dice-K was under the weather, up-chucking in between innings.
he managed to get the win, and his record is up to 7-2.

even though NYY beat us 2 outta 3, we still have a 10.5 game lead on 'em...

the sawx have completed their sweep of the lowly rangers.

meanwhile down in the bronx, the hapless blunders got swept by the angels (a team the sawx man-handled last month)...

schilling made an adjustment last night -- 7 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, no walks, 10 K's!
looked like the old schilling.
his splitter was working, and he hit 94mph on the gun a few times.

pap looked a little off, but still closed the door on the tribe with an overpowering fastball to hafner

youk had a stand-up inside the park homer, and extended his hit streak to 20 games.

manny tomahawked an inside fastball into the monstah seats.

tonight -- beckett...

Last night was just a great game...and Trot was back. Wish I was at the park. JD looks like he's swinging the bat a little better now...

the bosox train keeps a-rollin'!

everything's clicking right now: strong starting pitching, a dominant bullpen, and timely hitting.

cy beckett's boo-boo is all better (7 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 7 K's). he's now 8-0 with a 2.65 ERA.

tek & youk homered.
youk's streak is up to 21 games.
ortiz wasn't even missed.

this morning's AL east standings:
Code:Red Sox 36 15 .706
Orioles 25 27 .481 11.5 games back
Blue Jays 24 27 .471 12.0
Tampa Bay 21 29 .420 14.5
Yankees 21 29 .420 14.5

i wish they could speed the games up.
last night's debacle didn't end 'til almost 11...

NYY is holding roger the dodger back so his first start doesn't have to be @ fenway.

clemens is a mercenary, but he can't be too thrilled about playing for a sucky team...

Ha! This is great stuff. Some Red Sox fans are really dicks. And I mean that in a good way.

Oops. the rocket has groinish problems.

so the team that is 12 and 1/2 games out of first may have to rely on Igawa, who was 2-1 with a 7.63 earned run average in six games before they sent him to the minors.

sawx beat up the bronx bums, returning the favor from last night.

not only does clemens miss at least one start, but they also lost their second first baseman to injury.

jeter's 2 errors in an innings was a rarity.

the good guys had a balanced attack -- everyone in the line up contributed...

A vote for Youk means no vote for Ortiz...but Youk is more deserving this year. .350 average, 0 errors...he's tearing it up.

i figure big papi doesn't need my help to get votes...

good rubber game, sucky ending last night.
the first place lead is 10.5 (over tranna).

every sawk had a hit.
little pedroia is swinging a mean stick, and looks like a keeper.

seemed odd beckett tipped his cap when they took him out.
he didn't pitch that great.

gotta give A-rod credit for crushing one on a night when the ball was not carrying.

the game ended ~ 12:15, and they have to play tonight -- in oakland @ 10:05 ET.
i suspect we'll see them rest a buncha starters tonight...
