@Region Philbis,
Not to be a Debby-Downer, but Francona NOW says Dice-K is not going for the operation (Tommy John surgery) on his elbow. Now what?!

@Ragman,

yesterday's globe said the surgery is scheduled for tomorrow...
Quote:
Lefty reliever Rich Hill will undergo Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery today in Pensacola, Fla.
The procedure, which requires a 12-15-month rehabilitation, will be performed by Dr. James Andrews.

Daisuke Matsuzaka will have the same surgery tomorrow in Los Angeles, by Dr. Lewis Yocum.

@Joe Nation,
They have no competition at the bottom. Bet they still must have the largest under-500 payroll.

Dice-K is an enigma. His injuries (rotator cuff) did him in for sure but I think he also kept stuff to himself and was predisposed to not disclose the pain and damage he had to his trainers. His arm got used up. After the WB classic a few yrs ago ('08?), it made him miss spring training and the rest was history without any mystery.

@Region Philbis,
Apparently it was a pretty dicey proposition at best. Gave up 5 runs in 5 innings off 6 hits but registered 4 Ks. Nice fat 9.00 ERA.

Isn't Jamie Moyer still floating about MLB somewhere? I just checked ... last yr he was in majors he pitched 53 innings for the Rockies. He had a 26-yr career. Mercy, he is 51 now but he pitched almost to age 50 in the bigs.
