@jespah,
What do you mean no catching superstar? What would you call Joe Mauer? Putting his recent injury aside, he's considered by many as the best offensively as well as defensively.

@jespah,
Also, Brian McCann (Atlanta Braves) is an an All-star catcher. His vision problems (blurry in one eye after Lasik surgery) have been corrected. His defense seems to be improving, too.

@Ragman,
Yes but in fantasy it's all about offense -- at least the way that we play it. Catchers haven't been highly rated in a while, even Mauer.

it's very telling that tito jiggered the rotation so that dice would not have to pitch @ yankee stadium this weekend...

@jespah,
I wasn't aware the thread was about fantasy. Not saying that to be fresh or anything. I know quite a bit about sports, but next to nothing about fantasy sports except that it exists. It's one less addiction (along with online gambling) in which I've gotten involved. thankfully.

@Region Philbis,
Game just started and I'm watching Beckett pitch now. He gave up back-to-back hits to start off but he just got Texiera out now. 0-0 in the first.

Love it....he's throwing his high and inside heat on A-rod,. That'll keep him in his slump (.188).

@Ragman,

beckett has been his old dominant self just about every start this year.
last night the O came through for him in a big way.
a sweep tonight would finally get us to .500 ...

Daisuke Matsuzaka will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained elbow tomorrow according to Terry Fracona. Righthander Michael Bowden was recalled from AAA Pawtucket.

Aceves will be the starting pitcher on Saturday against Chicago in his place in the order.

@Ragman,

facing tommy john surgery, he may have pitched his last game in a red sawx uni -- next year is the last year of his contract.

more later...

@Region Philbis,
Yeah, I heard about that. Wonder why the powers-that-be didn't propose this long ago. I'll bet my last dollar it was diagnosed but kept quiet.

So far Aceves doesn't look like the starter who can fill in properly.

@Ragman,

at the time of the injury, it didn't seem that serious.
dice is famous for keeping the team in the dark when he's hurt.
with lackey back, aceves will go back to the 'pen...

so assuming he's pitched his last game for us, here are his stats --
49 wins, 30 losses, 105 games started, 622 2/3 innings pitched (a little under 6 innings per start),
4.25 ERA, 1 complete game, 569 hits allowed (64 dingers), 301 walks, 568 K's.

$51,111,111.11 posting fee.
$52,000,000.00 (6 year) contract.

he never lived up to the hype that preceded his arrival from japan.
for the most part, he pitched like a back-of-the-rotation starter.
he had the annoying habit of loading the bases with no outs and somehow escaping with minimal damage.

after surgery, he should be able to resume his career.
but i wonder if a team would be willing to take a chance on him...

@Region Philbis,
Let's hope it isn't the Sawx looking to re-sign Roll-the-Dice-K after his op.

Lackey ...hmmmm. He's well again? How can you tell?

My sad prediction: within 4 innings and he'll be riding the pine again. I'd love to be wrong.

@Region Philbis,
Cortisone shots are a treatment of last resort. Sooner, rather than later, a surgery is in order.
