I think the difference is his performance is not what the FANS have expected, but I'm sure the management is not very concerned at this point. Overall he's done well.
The "investment" isn't going to be gauged over his first 6 starts, nor over his first full season....

I don't think any ball player is worth the price - but the salaries are a result of supply and demand.

Not as a baseball pitcher.
Probably yes as a merchandise pitcher.
I wonder how many Red Sox Matzusaka t-shirts have been sold in Japan lately.

That's very true - sometimes you do not realize how much money a player can bring in to an organization simply because of the merchandise alone.

i think Miller was referring to clemens, not dice-K.
roger the dodger will be making upwards of $18 mill in base salary, almost triple what dice is getting...

As a lifelong Yankees fan it pains me to say this: "I hope Clemens loses every game he bothers to show up for." (other pitchers of course shall win every game so it'll work out okay). I detest Clemens, always have and always will (maybe it's those years he was with Booston). Clemens sealed his fate with me when he 'retired' a few years back and then proceeded to play again. He now retires annually and then is brought back for shorter and shorter seasons. May he never again pitch a full inning.
Then of course there's the entire set of lies given by Pettitte and Clemens about leaving New York to be in Texas so they could be closer to their families since that was so much more important than baseball or the money. May Clemens and Pettitte be stranded on a deserted island in the 3rd week of June, and not again be found until they have withered away to piles of bleached bones.

Why does this not surprise me?
(and maybe we can get Booston to bring in some close relative of Bill Buckner )

Anyone just see the Yankees game?
Nice outing Mariano..nice pitch...FOR ME TO POOP ON!!!
It's ok though. Rocket is going to come in and save the day. Riiiiiight. The difference between the Red Sox and Yankees? Rocket would have been a good addition to an already great rotation. Yankee fans think he's going to turn them into a powerhouse again(though admittedly, if their rotation is fully healthy it ain't bad).

cy beckett is now 7-0 (7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 5 K's).
he dominated tranna and got a ton o' run support.
hopefully the bats have a few more hits in them tonight to prop up the diceman-san...
looking at the NL -- are the brewers for real?
they've won 23 of their first 33...

don't remember ever seeing the sawx dominate a team on the road like that.
they swept the 3 game series in tranna by an aggregate score of 26-5.
last night they man-handled ace halladay 8-zip.
wakefield's line -- 7 shutout innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 5 K's.
he leads the AL in ERA.
great pitching and great hitting at the same time?
not much more to say except 'wow'...
