the bats were largely silent today after a big win last night.

another ordinary outing for Dice (6 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, 7 k's).
he struggled mightily and threw way too many pitches in the 4th inning, but regained his composure to get 6 outs in a row.

the yanks win today prolly saved torre's job (for now, anyway).
bench coach mattingly is waiting in the wings.

mo rivera finally got his 1st save...

the return of the bats means another big win in Da Bronx.

ortiz, manny and cora(?) went yard.
tavarez pitched well enough to get his first win.
paps got his 8th save in 8 tries...

I missed the game. Sucks not seeing the hr's and Papelbon.

RIP Josh Hancock, the Cardinals pitcher who died in a car crash last night.

they wasted a quality start by schilling last night -- 7 innings, 8 hits 2 runs, no walks, 7 K's.

pap choked, threw a lot of pitches in the process, and prolly won't be available tonight...

How about Josh Beckett last night?
He was cruisin' for the first four innings, then things got sketchy.
He held on, though.

I'm lovin' Hideki.

Doesn't it seem to be the one that doesn't get all the fanfare that ends up being the true clutch player.

My favorite two highlights of last night's game:

1) Crisp's diving catch!

2) Seeing Big Papi run like mad - he got out, but I was on the floor laughing.

another night, another hero... last night was manny's turn.

dice-K was not OK yet again.
i'm not buying the factors given for his slow start (new ball, better hitters, language barrier, ect).
i'm guessing all the throwing in between starts ain't helping...

the bullpen (minus pap, timlin and okajima) stopped the bleeding...

Why not? Are you familiar with Josh Beckett's performance last season? He only made the transition from the National League, and said in an interview it was a difficult adjustment. The Japanese league isn't as strong as the NL.

Dice-K hasn't pitched bad...but he's had control problems his last couple games. He'll be fine, but he's a victim to all the hype. Chances are he's not a 20 game winner his first season, but some fans think he should be. I don't think anyone in the Sox organization doubted he'd get knocked around a bit this year.

i want the guy to succeed as much as anybody, but he has yet to show that he's worth the huge investment (not to mention all the perks)...

i was equally disgusted with beckett last year.
he thought he could mow 'em down like he did in the NL.
this year he's learning how to pitch again...

so far dice-K's slow start hasn't hurt the team --
sawx currently have a 6 game lead, and sport the best record in the bigs.

wakefield was spot-on last night, shutting out a good offense for 7 innings.
big papi's dinger was all the run support he needed...
