@Region Philbis,
Oh. You would think making $500,000 - $900,000 a year would work for a guy wouldn't you?

I am still confused about men who are able to play something they have a passion for finagling over more money.

@mismi,

'preciate it, mismi... Smile

lester silenced the O's lumber last night...
look for smoltzie to have a stronger outing tonight...

pap earned a cheap save to tie bob stanley's sawx saves record --
4 run lead, 2 on, 2 out, tying run... in the on-deck circle?
no way should that be a save...

@Region Philbis,
I noticed the Yankees picked up Hinske from the Pirates yesterday. 1 HR 55 RBI and a 255 average, not exactly a roman candle. Perhaps the Yanks are looking for utility players and defense?
What's your take reeg?

@panzade,

he is a good utility guy -- plays 1st, 3rd and corner outfield.
surprised he only has one dinger this year.
he could do some damage in that little bronx bandbox...

the start of the 2nd half of the season is underway, and it was nice to see buchholz get rewarded with a start.
he earned it by (more or less) quietly going about his biz at AAA this year.
with a little help from the pen, he impressively notched the W -- a far cry from how awful he pitched last year.

as expected, lugo was let go (designated for assignment).
epstein admitted it wasn't one of his better free-agent signings.
with lowrie slowly regaining form, i think they'll stick with green for a lefty/righty platoon at short...

the diceman leaveth??

Quote:
The frustration was evident, in their words and facial expressions and use of the word “disappointment.’’ Both Red Sox manager Terry Francona and pitching coach John Farrell were sharp in their words toward Daisuke Matsuzaka, the pitcher now rehabbing in Fort Myers, Fla., who expressed his criticisms of the Sox training regimen.

That did not sit well.

“Disappointed, yeah, because there’s been a lot of conversation, a lot of back and forth, a lot of trying to understand his perspective,’’ Farrell said. “Again, it has to be noted that we have the utmost respect for what he’s accomplished in the past, what he’s accomplished in two years here, and how he likes to train and, as these situations have arose, there’s been many sit-down meetings [where] thoughts have been exchanged back and forth.

“So the disappointment comes from [him] basically airing his dirty laundry.’’

Matsuzaka spoke to a Japanese website, divulging frustration in methods he believes have stymied him and his ability to be an effective major league pitcher. But Farrell even took issue with just how good Matsuzaka has been over his Sox career, with high pitch counts and low numbers of innings, and throwing too many pitches to get too few outs. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/07/29/sharp_replies_issued/

Gentlemen, the Yanks have stolen (the game isn't over as I write) 7 bases off Jason Varitek.
7, like the Seven Dwarfs.

Any comments?
