so sabathia is going to da bronx for da big bucks after all.
i heard the CC stands for 'cash cow'...

i'd put teixeira's chances of playing heeyuh next year at about 50-50.
the largest contract theo's handed out so far is $70mill (drew)... plus he says he's averse to including a no-trade clause,
something bora$ will undoubtedly insist upon for his client...

varitek (through borass) is playing hardball, may sit out part or all of this year instead of accepting the sawx one year / one year + option deal.
he has 70 more minutes until the sawx pull their offer off the table...

@jespah,
looks like the deadline has been extended until the end of the day.

i find it odd that the guy with the C on his jersey is letting bora$$ prolong the negotiation.
very un-captainlike...

this just in...

Varitek on verge of two-year deal with Red Sox

***

EDIT
Quote:
Jason Varitek and the Red Sox have agreed to a one-year contract with an option, a baseball source confirmed to the Globe's Tony Massarotti.

Varitek will earn $5 million in 2009, with the club holding a $5 million option for 2010. If the Red Sox do not pick up that option, Varitek has the choice of remaining with the club on a $3 million deal. In '10, he can earn another $2 million in incentives based on playing time, beginning at 80 games started.

Thus, the potential total value of the deal increases from $8 million-$10 million to $10 million-$12 million. The incentives apply to both the team and player options for 2010.

dice is ahead of the curve (pun intended) this spring -- pitching for japan in the WBC, he silenced cuba with 6 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits (all singles), no walks, and 8K's...

nice 5-3 win yesterday -- we 3-hit the rays.
vintage beckett (7 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, 10 K's) and a trio of relievers kept the tampa bats at bay.
okajima struggled a bit, but the damage was minimal.
pedey & tek provided the thump...

wake flirted with a no-no for 7.1 innings yesterday against the A's, tossing a much-needed complete game gem (4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, 4 K's)...
