Well, that's exactly what happened in 2004 and 2007 -- they were competitive the previous years and then made it all the way up the hill in those particular years. And then in 2005 they didn't make it up the hill but were still competitive, just like this year. Of course I'd love to repeat but I can live with a few times per decade, more if they're up for it.

Consider this. They got as far as they did without Schilling. With no Lowell at the end. With Big Papi having wrist issues. With Manny gone. I'd say they did damned well.
