Great work, Dag. You go, girl.

Meanwhile, I've managed to have my laptop bag stolen - laptop included. Company laptop. Perfect sense of timing, eh? <groan>

Oh NO! What a nightmare! Gah! When it rains, it pours, ay?

Uncle Thomas, I do apply every year for green card lottery. This year is the ninth (9!) attempt.

Tom Ashbrook had an H1B visa issue as the main topic in his On Point. If you heard Dasha from Cambridge speaking there, well that was me! Very Happy

I heard you! I just got in my car as you said your last sentence where you mentioned the lottery. When they said thank you Dasha, I shouted, "That's my Dasha!"

HA! Laughing Thanks for your support, Swimpy. I'm not that hard to tell apart just by my accent.
I was surprised though that I was the only H1B visa applicant to call.
I guess most of the rest of them are still in India... Confused

You can listen to the show by finding On Point at the WBUR website. Here's the link:

oy. just heard myself. that must be one of the most unpleasant human experiences, to hear oneself talk on the radio, or even worse, see oneself on TV. Blechch!

I never gave credence to the whole "the camera adds 10 pounds" thing until I saw myself on TV. Eek!

(Very cool that you're speaking up and doing stuff though!)

Just crawled under my desk to listen to Dahhhhhsha.

Sounded good - made good points - will they be looking for the interesting non-IT-representative?

I had a (kind of) radio show on a local station once a month - never listended to it. (I think, I sound awfull - others say, I've THE radio voice.)

You really made your points, dagmar!

(re soz's reply: I never complain again about people hanging around on chairs at tv-talkshows/roundtables .... since I saw me.)

i wish i could have controlled my voice better, it was shaking all over the place. but oh well. next time. I used to be accustomed to giving interviews for radio and TV when I worked back at home for a human rights NGO, but alas, that's more than 7 years ago.

soz, what were you doing on TV?

A few different things. Most recently, giving interviews at the grand opening of my center in L.A. (Some 7 years ago now... sigh...)

No wait, I was on TV just a few months ago but didn't see it myself, I was being filmed by local news unawares and friends told me about it.

That's the best TV appearance, as far as I'm concerned - one that you don't see afterwards.

As a teenager, I used to do a weekly show, moderating this 2-3 hour long mosaic of cartoons, short documentaries, interviews, etc... for one year.
I saw about five minutes of one of them. Never looked again. Then saw myself during the human rights work time, doing a show on international week against racism with African Slovaks (is that a term?). Pure pain and suffering.

I interviewed our then state minister for labour, health and social affairs during shortly before the elections.
Since 'election propaganda' is can't be broadcasted on public tv shortly before elections (the topic was yout unemployment and what he wanted to do against it) those 30 minutes were broadcasted by a "citizen tv" .... and used during the last couple of days by the Social Democrats as video.

(I got that "honour" because due to my radio program I was known all over the place and thus was invited to some talk shows [about AIDS, drugs etc] on state tv ... It's more than 10, 12 years ago now *sigh*)

I know, O'Bill. Tom picked up the lottery, and the other guy was just keeping his own.
That's ok, I think it was talked about at some point before that.
