My first riddle! I think its valid and not too hard.

He who has it gives it.
He who wants it does not know it.
He who knows it does not need it.
What am I?

Okay I will try again if I come up with something else. Smile

How about answers? It is along the same lines as knowledge but, I don't know why it doesn't fit. I will keep trying.

You aren't thinking the answer is - what
are you?

It is none of the said answers. Tryingthhelp, at first i thought you had broken it with answers, but i don't think it fits the last line because knowing an answer doesn't mean you don't need it. I think the word answer in its self partially means too need?

Edit: Aiden, i think everybody needs love.

Here's my reasoning:

"He who has it gives it"
People who are loved are usually loving in return.
People who do not feel loved, have a harder time giving it to others.

"He who wants it does not know it."
People who are in want of love might feel they have never been loved or have "known" love.

"He who knows it does not need it."
People who are loved or feel loved, do not feel in need of it.

That was my reasoning for love- but now I think the answer is TIME.

"He who has it, gives it."
We all give our time to something or someone, as long as we're alive, we have time and we give it doing whatever it is we do- or if we have a clock or watch and know the time, we can give that information to someone who doesn't.

"He who wants it, does not know it."
If someone doesn't have a watch or clock, they might want to know the time- or if someone is running out of time- they no longer know what it feels like to have enough of it.

"He who knows it doesn't need it."
If you know the time, you don't need to ask for it.

By the way, sometimes there can be more than one answer that fits a riddle. Laughing

"He who wants it does not know it?"
Who wants counterfeit currency?

The only people who would actively want it, would be those who would want to pass it, so they would "know it" (was counterfeit).

You're probably right, but I think my answers fit better, overall.

What do you say jason?

The answer cannot be counterfeit money. The reason I know is because I have it. Shocked
So, it doesn't fit.
I have it but, I am not giving it.
I wanted it and I did know it.
I know it so I don't need it. < that is the only part that fits.

thoh you are too funny and too cute, thanks  Very Happy
Lice? Laughing Laughing Laughing

Wisdom, peace, hope, time and...... the Easter Puppy? You mean squinney? I just noticed the picture. It is cute.
It seems like there can be more than 1 answer.
It seems that love fits the best. I hope that is not the answer.
Why? Because that would mean none of us have it except aidan because we didn't know it. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
Icklejason I like this riddle, it really makes me think. Are you going to tell us the answer or do I have to keep thinking?

Huh? Are you reading the riddle?

A person with wisdom gives wisdom? Not necessarily.
A person with peace gives peace? Not necessarily.
A person with hope gives hope? No...
A person with time gives time? No...
A person with nothing gives nothing. True.

Quote:
He who wants it does not know it.

He who wants wisdom does not know it? If this were true, nobody would seek an education.
He who wants peace does not know it? If this were true, nobody would stop fighting wars.
He who wants hope does not know it? Not necessarily.
He who wants time does not know it? If this were true students would not ask for extensions.
He who wants nothing does not know it? Not really, unless "it" refers to "knowing what he wants" (which, grammatically, it doesn't).

He who knows it does not need it.
What am I?

I'm not going to bother with the previous possible answers since clearly none of them fit this riddle at all.

Nothing doesn't fit perfectly but I wouldn't be surprised if it was supposed to be the answer

I do agree with you on those, not as an absolute, but as a possibility.
The one that fits is nothing. "Nothing" doesn't fit the others though.

I interpreted the "he who wants it does not know it" as
Someone wanting something because they don't know it and that is why they want it.

Like he who wants wisdom doesn't know it - that is why he wants it because he doesn't know it or have it so he would seek education.

If I understand correctly, you are saying the way I am reading it is not correct grammatically? That would not surprise me since I am not that good with grammatics.

stuh505 wrote:

I don't think anything surprises me anymore so I wonder if "nothing" is the intended answer.

Yes, everyone is involuntarily giving time (it might not be to anything productive) but time is ticking away from each person's life with every second that passes.

I personally don't think "nothing" fits very well.
"He who has it gives it."
Mother Theresa had "nothing" but she gave more than nothing back.

"He who wants it does not know it. "
Many people are aware they want for nothing.

"He who knows it does not need it."
I can't even begin to understand how nothing would fit this- "He who knows nothing does not need nothing? I can't see it...

I think "coffin" fits pretty well- except most people charge an arm and a leg for a coffin- so "He who has it gives it" is questionable- unless you're talking about burying an unidentified pauper or something.

I don't think "nothing" fits too well for the other clues, but I do think it is a perfect fit for the first clue. If someone has nothing, then they cannot possibly give something, because they don't have it.

And as far as Mother Theresa goes, she was an immoral, money hoarding, cruel, greedy bigot...far from from the saintly portrait painted by history!

The answer hasn't been said.

aiden, I think the main problem with your reasoning (and others) is their are too many ifs and mights. There is always an alternative to your reason, and my answer will work definitively.

stuh you literal approach would find the answer but i agree with tryingthelp about wisdom.
stuh505 wrote:

wisdom isn't a perfect example but it is possible to understand the meaning of the word wisdom and not be wise. I don't think there is anything wrong with your understanding of the grammar in this instance tryingtohelp.

I hope this helps and i haven't over complicated things, ill post the answer on tuesday on my return to a computer.
