Because it's not like it's a real country?

And because they talk funny, eh?

And because Beth is there?

Why not love?

Because it's not like it's a real country, it does not clash with my loathing of patriotism.

Or matriotism, for that matter.

We can be right arseholes.

But, they have more people than you do.

So there.

Soooooo. So..... So, there's more ambient patriotism simply because of the numbers.

Or perhaps the beer consumption per capita.

(Lol!!!! I was answering your first comment when you added to it.

Eerie...)

That's the point!

There ISN'T!!!!!!!

The Canadians are simply too cool and rational for much patriotism.

They're perfect!

Lookit...they went to WW II straight away, like a good country, didn't hang around like SOME.

Were they dumb and evil enough to go to Vietnam? NO!

Were they dumb and evil enough to go to Iraq? NO!!!

Can they have a lot of guns without killing each other at a rate to make a lemming blush????

YES!!!!

Canadians (to an outsider) seem so sane, so civilized! I mean, look at what's going on right next door to them. But still they carry on in their own, civilized way. Unfazed. I am mightily impressed ... & quite envious. I would love my own country to be just like that!

I've said it before but it bears repeating.

Canadians are just like Australians, except kept in the fridge for later on.

oooh, deb, I LOVE it: matriotism, yes! Germans are patriots, because they live in the Vaterland, but Russians must be matriots, because they live in the Rodina, Mother Russia. Yes, things are much clearer now.

I've been promulgating the theory that New Zealand is you guys' Canada, like Canada is our New Zealand. You Ozzies and we Yanks are the manic, nutty ones, and the Canucks and Kiwis are the calm, polite, reasonable counterweights to the respective usses.

Canaduh!

Canadians.....
1. Smile a lot and are very friendly.
2. Accept differences and are truly multicultural.
3. Love pets, sometimes more than people.
4. Are so polite it is hard to know what they really mean or really think.
5. Always think they are busy.
6. Live in a beautiful and clean country.
7. Are time keepers and rule followers.
8. Talk a lot and interrupt other people.
9. Finish our sentences even though it's not what we meant.
10. Avoid disagreement or argument.
11. Stick together and speak English.
12. Don't like to be mistaken for Americans.
13. Think that if they don't tell you something you won't know it: They talk a lot about their own abilities and accomplishments.
14. Ask lots of questions to fill up the silence.
15. Expect others to make choices (i.e. "Do you want to open the window? I'm wondering if you want to go to the movie?").
16. Are not REAL friends: their work and private lives are separate.
17. Play really boring sports alone: i.e. jogging, hiking, biking, rowing, skiing.

Curling, you forgot curling, the only sport I can think of played with a kitchen implement.

username Very Happy

I love NZ for the same reasons I love Canadians. Political sanity! (At least when it comes to the US!)
Some other (domestic) NZ policies I'm not quite so sold on.

Don't count on the rationality. At present there is a Bushie clone aboard as the Canajun Prime Minister named Stephen Harper.
