FORD GETS THE BOOT . . .

Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto has been removed from office as the result of the rulling in a conflict o interest case. He is out on his ear in fourteen days, although he can, of course appeal. The Deputy Mayer takes over at such time as Ford is definitely booted, and council can call a by-election, if they choose.

A commentator on the radio has just commented that he's done positive things as mayor, but that it has been one step forward and two steps back--no kiddin'. This case is a conflict of interest case from his days on council, before he was mayor. There have been many allegations of conflict of interest since he got the job.

@Setanta,
I just saw this (looking for details on the accident on the Gardiner).

I'm amazed the judge went through with this. In agreement, but amazed.

Well, he didn't bar him from the office, so if his appeal fails, and council calls a by-election, he could run again. That makes me think council will not call a by-election. I think the judge wanted to send a strong message. Ford has been skirting conflict of interest as the mayor, and he's been a loose canon.

@ehBeth,
The only downer is losing Carney. He's been scooped.

@Joeblow,
But let that not interfere with our gloating.

ARRRGOOOOOS.

Smile

I don't want to count Ford out for good just yet. I can't imagine how he'd win on appeal, and he'll run again when they let him...so sadly, infuriatingly, he could be back.

But it's a veryveryvery good day today.

@Joeblow,
The Carney news really shocked me.

I kept thinking I was misreading the elevator news.

@Joeblow,
Ford will definitely be back.

On the upside, a couple of people I know who voted for him were so put off by the TTC/football team episode that they'd already said they won't vote for him again.

Hehehehehehehehe . . .

Go JoeBlow ! ! !

They were interviewing people on the street just after the ruling, and before anyone had had time to absorb any media buzz--and several of those people spoke of Ford's "sense of entitlement." I don't think he's nearly as popular as he seems to think.

@Joeblow,
Yuck.

A 2 hour drive home in that mess out there AND Ford kept his job.

I'd like to slap him.

The boy's a train wreck. The only thing worse that could happen would be to see the poor saps re-elect him.
