We've got all those shops you can find elsewhere, all over the world, looking unfortunately (mostly, at least) the very same as on at any other place.

Besides, if you look up the building ...

To the left of this Italian ice-café (we got five in the town center and this is not the best!) iss the entrance to an indoor shopping "mall", stretching over a couple of houses

... you may notice the the German writing, which is from the original store:
"Kolonialwaren" (= 'colonial goods') was until the early 50's used (mainly for any food); "Materialwaren" (= 'material goods') were species, drugs, etc , actually nearly synonym to other.

Walter, We've got lots of buildings like the ones you've photographed. Of course, they are not as old. I'll get some photos taken and post them for comparison. Give me a day or two.

I'm really liking the painted words around doors, keeps coming up, I don't remember seeing that style before.

You find quite a few timbered houses ... under slate here, btw.

This is a fashion store, stretching over three houses altogether ...

You find there (always) the year when the house was erected, the name of the owner and his wife, a Latin or German phrase - mostly from the bible or "God-related".
Newer words are telling about re-building after e.g. fire, just "renovatum" and the date etc
