Ok, after the successful completion of my last sketch I decided to do another one...and I had some great pics of a model friend (alex foster) that I thought I would use. I knew I wanted to do something dark...so I tried doing a bit of painting over, composition mash ups, then last night I quickly rigged up some free 3d models to work out the composition and this is what I came up with:

(VERY quick & crappy as you can see)

This morning I've spent about 6 hrs taking it from there. First I did a sketch:

And here's what I've got so far with the painting

Startin to look like a Frank Frezetta painting. I assume youre familiar with his work. How about a little puff of lavendar to start at around the moon then her left shoulder down to poke out behind her right hip so that she pops more.(I assume this is an airbrush background? not computer-airbrush allows buildup of colors more) I
have a small problem with the little" Hitler moustache" ,can she be shaved? This is a great beginning . I tried doing some Frazetta "maidens" in the 80's for some motorcycle tanks and I didnt succeed so I kept to animals.

Thanks for the comments. I wasn't familiar with Frazetta but I have seen a lot from that genre...you know, the greased up scantily clad women juxtaposed into some brutal fantasy scene.

They tend to have a very 80's look to them and a lot of flashy colors so I see where you're coming from with the lavender comment. I wasn't actually thinking of these paintings at all, though...and I don't like the extreme color palettes.

I wanted this one to have a dark and muted palette that made you think more of Dracula than Dungeons and DRagons, which is what I get from Frazetta.

As to the moustache, well..I don't usually do this kind of stuff but it's kind of fun to be bad!

note: nope this is 100% photoshop, no airbush

Looks great to me. What is the process for something like that? Talking to someone who knows nothing about Photoshop really. I used to love drawing, it'd be interesting to experiment with something like this as an excuse for getting back into the habit. Is it really difficult to learn to do that quality of work? Any good resources?

First thing I thought was, why is she wearing a bra, but no panties. Girls like this type of art too, but the whole 'patch' thing is a little off-putting. It would make more sense to me if she were wearing panties and no bra, anyway, from a practical point of view.

Disclaimer: I am ill and feeling fairly goofy.

Hows yer ear dear? ARe you still sitting this out? I dont wanna scare you but this can be quite serious . If the earwig burrows out to the other side of your head, well. You know. Thats not good. AAANNNDDD, if it were a female, she could lay and egg in your corpus colosum.

well, I was originally going to make the beast she was riding be a lizard-like creature, and in my initial concept she had a metal undergarments down there too, but when I thought of making her naked and sitting on top of a hairy beast it was too striking of an idea to let go. I guess I like the idea of it being somewhat offensive. Sorry!

Ashers, the process is simple...draw a sketch, start roughing in the basic colors underneath that, then gradually add more and more detail until you are satisfied. That's basically it.

Some great tutorials here:

I figured out one thing that was bothering me about the pose -- perspective. In the photo, she's a bit below eye-level, looking up under her bangs. In the painting, she's up high -- she should be looking down. Her neck would have to be at a really weird angle for her to be up where she is, but looking "up" at the viewer.

That's pretty amazing work for photoshop. I, too first thought of Frazetta, but I like the darker vibe.

very moody, looking good - though Soz brought up a good point and littlek - the lack of underwear is a little strange and does look odd! (not to mention maybe uncomfortable ...) total nudity or a bikini would work better I feel - why do superheroes all burst out of their clothes I wonder? Confused

I really like your drawings. I went back a ways but can't see the pictures in your posts Sad

They are blue boxes w/a question mark and when I hit control to try and open it in another window I get a message that says the the page can't open because there is no server.

TTH I'm not sure what to tell you. I know you have been able to see pictures that I posted before on other threads, and I am still able to view these pictures fine (on this thread, at least)..
