Hello
We have an older Rainsoft system (We bough the house in 1993 and it was there, house was built in 1986) that seems to have quit working. We have well water and the system is comprised of the "green resin tank" with the controller on it as well as a brine tank that we add salt to. Periodically the salt usage drops off and then we notice the water getting harder, less suds in the shower. I was able to get the installer to service it several years ago, he installed 2 small brass flapper valves with rubber gaskets molded onto them. The whole call was maybe $50 and 30 minutes of time. He has since retired and closed up shop and the system performance is degrading by the week. The only complaint that I would have with the system is the amount of salt it consumes when it is operating correctly. I easily use 1000 pounds of salt annually.
Should I try and repair the existing brass valve? What about a Fleck valve retrofit, would that reduce salt usage? Or should I look at a new system and start in with a water check etc.. We are a 3 person household with a 400'+ deep well and a domestic septic system. I am a mechanical engineer with pretty good DIY skills (Installed own boiler/indirect hot water heater with set back controllers) and wouldn't mind doing the work.
Thanks for your help
The control valve on your system is obsolete. RainSoft no longer supports this platform.
I will be happy to list and explain your options. Drop me an email.
