The mixed metaphor didn't stick in your (gorgeous) gorge, Light? Nonetheless, I'll take any compliment I kin git!
It wasn't mixed, it was tossed...like a salad.
We need to get together, collaborate on something beautifully written. Salad indeed. With seeds in it?
Pepitas (roasted and unsalted)
BTW, I never metaphor I didn't like.
Well, I'm phor you, Light.
Now a nice crisp garden salad, lots of romaine lettuce, fresh green onions, cucumber slices, shredded carrot and radishes, some slivers of green, red, and yellow bell pepper, thick tomato wedges, all picked-today, big cross sections of fresh-from-the-basement Portabella mushrooms ... a little fresh garlic, some chopped dill and oregano, a little coarse black pepper and some coarse salt, a hearty extra-virgin olive oil and a nice rich balsamic vinegar ... some chopped hardboiled egg and a couple spoonsfull of sliced, pimento-stuffed Spanish olives ... Not much there to arouse dispute
Must go for the Vincotto balsamic...texture and sweetness of the really really aged, at a fraction of the cost.
I really had a Nicoise salad in mind with seared Ahi and melba toast spread with caviar paste. The artichoke hearts have been marinated in champagne, of course.
Veddy nice indeed, LW, but with the Ahi, caviar and champagne, brioche toasts, or sesame flatbread might kick up the melba toast idea a bit.
I believe this thread has digressed!
What's cooking? Homosexuality vs. Christianity? Perhaps it should be reversed -- we're heading for the paranoia of many heterosexuals that homosexuality is like Communism and is infiltrating the heart of our institutions. Hmmm.
Well, LW, even paranoids can have real enemies ... just 'cause somebody is crazy don't mean somebody else can't be plottin' against 'em
Well, there's the infection fear. "If I get too close to these people, I might become one myself." Once one starts to think that through, once gets at the core of the problem: sexuality isn't by nature as unidirectional as many like to believe. Uh-oh, maybe if I'm seen with one of "them," "people" might think I'm "like" them, "if you know what I mean." "Homosexuals have an agenda, you know..." To take over the world. Or something like that.
Rather than settle the issue, the current actions have opened a whole new can of worms, as I see it. Apart from the prospect of schism, there is the following consideration (among many others); Suppose a heterosexual minister chooses to openly live unmarried with a partner of the opposite sex, maintaining traditional doctrinal position regarding conjugal arrangements have been rendered moot by these recent developments?

I'm not sure who it was (I think it was Craven) who mentioned that almost all adolescent straight males go through a period of rather intense dislike of homosexuals -- almost to the point of hatred -- and certainly irrational.
I know I did.
Proabably such overt antagonism toward gays helps young guys feel more secure within themselves -- but whatever the motivation, whoever made that observation pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Then, most of us grow up -- and we get past whatever irrational feelings we had about other people's sexuality.
Unfortuantely, some don't.
Ah Timber, suppose, suppose, suppose... the straw is falling all around.... You can always suppose that if you support one thing, another thing might result. One cannot live one's life like that. Caution is a good thing, but I'm very glad our ancestors invented the wheel and didn't sit there and say, Yeah, but we might someday get a flat tire...
It wasn't only Kinsey who discovered that it's more likely that young males experiment with homosexual copulation and reject it (the "Gawd, was I drunk last night" syndrome). A well adjusted invidual just discards it as a failed experiment and it doesn't effect their psychological makeup one iota. Of course, one has to take into consideration of how many mal-adjusted individuals we have in this country (or in the world). Want to take a guess?
It was Craven indeed Frank, reminiscing about Brazil again...it is a matter of upbringing, and from what I understand about Craven's history from his posts, this was a huge issue, and the reasons behind his initial feelings, and subsequent new conclusions, are clear. Bigotry in any form is taught, or learned, not inborn. Craven's personal experiences growing up should really be an example to all to look forward, never back.
