Frank, the only claim was that Jesus was the son of God, not God proper.

I am not really up on my holy Trinity, but doesn't that reperesent God as various components? Together they are God, but individually, they are the Father, the Son, and Casper the Friendly Ghost? I didn't get that wrong, did I?

Now, Cav and Gautam: this is exactly why I sent you to your rooms! There actually are people (e.g. Snood) who take their religion seriously... please try to refrain from jokes on this subject, ok? (remember: politics/religion are, IMHO, not places of which to make light...) Be good, boys.

My post should have read: "there are some, including myself, who don't believe that Christianity and Homosexuality are necessarily at odds with each other", just to clarify. The MCC has done very good work in building bridges, and raising awareness.

Cav

That is only possible if Christians are allowed to be as hypocritical as they want.

The only way Jesus can be GOD is if the Old Testament is correct.

If the Old Testament is correct -- then homosexual conduct offends the god of the Bible.

If the god of the Bible -- which is to say, the god of Christianity is offended by homosexual conduct -- then it is hypocrisy to the nth degree for Christians to build bridges to homosexuals.

Frank,

My apologies for diverting the thread, but I actually have a couple of serious questions for you, before we end this. First, as a self-proclaimed agnostic, you question the existence of a god, so I wonder how you can proclaim that the god of Christianity is indeed offended by homosexuality. This claim is based solely on the to-the-letter word of the bible, which, as an agnostic, I suspect you doubt.

Second, it seems you agree that there is a difference between those with true faith and those who are religionists. If a homosexual had true faith in Christianity, and wanted a place to express that, shouldn't they be allowed to? When it comes to faith, there will always be those who wish to express it in a public religious forum, such as a church, and those who prefer to keep it personal. The question of who has true faith however, is the unknown factor, and it is not our place to judge others in that matter, whatever their lifestyle choices, whether we are religious or not.

No need to apologize. All threads get diverted eventually -- and I was rather enjoying this diversion. I truly did not mean the thread was ended -- just that it seemed over -- and I wanted to thank the participants. Glad to revive it for anything new that comes up.

I am an agnostic -- and I do not know if there is a God or if there are no gods.

But I KNOW there is a Bible -- and I certainly can discuss what the Bible says without compromising any of that.

I am not endorsing anything written there -- nor am I saying anything else about it -- except that this is what the Bible says.

So I am not proclaiming that the god of Christianity is offended by homosexuality -- I am saying that THE BIBLE SAYS that the god of the Bible is offended by homosexuality.

I hope you see that difference -- and if you do not, I'll discuss it in greater detail.

I don't know what that means. "True faith" is a oxymoron in my opinion.

Of course, as long as they understand that the god they are praying to has indicated that homosexuality is an abomination to him -- and that the god they are praying to has instructed his followers to kill people who engage in homosexual conduct.

I'm not judging anyone.

The Bible instructs people who accept the god described in it to kill people who engage in homosexual conduct. If they do not do so -- if they are understanding of homosexuality -- they are, on its face, being hypocrites.

Now of course, you understand, Cav, that I think the Bible is a book of fiction -- and I think anyone who puts any stock in it really is engaging in nonsense. (I do not KNOW that for sure; but my assessment of it is as I stated it.)

I think everyone, Christian and non-Christian alike, should lscoff at the admonition of the god of the Bible to kill people who engage in homosexual conduct.

I think everyone should laugh at the idea that GOD -- if there is a GOD -- would give such an instruction. It is a laughable notion.

And, after laughing at those two things -- I think every thinking human being should then discard all the rest of the Bible -- INSOFAR AS IT IS THE WORD OF ANY GOD -- and relegate it to the trashcan of history.

Since all books -- even those written by Mickey Spillane -- contain some good ideas for how to live one's life -- I have no problem with anyone retaining the decent ideas of the Bible.

But for the most part, the book should be banned as obscene.
