Great pics hitchhiker. Not sure if I would have gone up there since I'm very afraid of heights, but it does look like a rough walk down.

If you have the time, could you please fill in a person from Oz on this intriguing, ancient place? ... My first thoughts are Inca ruins, but I'm probably wrong.

No it's not inca runins but mayan ruins. These people occupied what is now the yucatan section of Mexico and were conquered by the spanish about 1500 AD.
In the US we both conquered and mostly elminated the native population but in Mexico the native people are still there.

Another big difference between the US and Mexico/South America is the intermarriage of the native population with the Spanish conquerors, whereas in the US, that was not common.
