Any idea where the "we English" come from?

To give a hint:

The fact remains that hundreds of thousands of jocks have abandoned Scotland to come and live in England, so they'll always be regarded as "immigrant-class" no matter which way the vote goes.
What a cheek to come and squat in other people's countries!
Even Sean Connery deserted Scotland and buggered off to live in the Caribbean..Smile

At the moment I'm proud to call myself 'British' because the English, Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish have for centuries been like one big family standing shoulder-to-shoulder on all battlefields.
But if Scotland votes for independence i'll take it as an insult and will start calling myself English instead of British to make sure nobody mistakes me for a jock.
Incidentally if they become independent, the blue bits will have to be removed from the union jack and good riddance..Wink

PS-Walter, yes we English have got "warrior DNA" in our veins and we're proud of it..Smile
I was born and bred in the English midlands city of Leicester (pronounced Lester), King Lears old home town, and our family go back generations in the area, my surname (not my non-de-plume Fabulini) goes back unchanged to before 1066.
Over its 2000+ years history, Leicester has been occupied in turn by the Iron Age Coritanian Tribe, the Romans, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons and Normans, and there's probably some of them in my DNA.
Did I mention I'm a - ahem - multiple PC wargame league champion?

For a period of about 100 to 150 years, the English Saxons still visited us.
That stopped and thus, we send some over again, from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Wettin, Hannover, Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, ... ... ...

At least you intend to leave the white diagonal St Andrew's Cross in it.

I bet you can't win the A2K Pick-um NFL competition like I did first time of asking and then retained the title the next year. Up against 20 odd Yanks.

Am I the only one who finds Newsnight discussions about genocide and care-home horrors chaired by 30 somethings with their skirts half way up their thighs, and one leg over the other, a bit lacking in good taste?

PS- Can't this thread be renamed "The English/Welsh/Irish Thread" to keep the jocks out?..Wink

PS Walter, are you German? No problem, you're welcome in this thread, the Germans are a proud strong race!

Lucky!

I must say, though, that you seemed to put a lot of thought and attention into your picks. I have always prided myself on my off the cuff guesses, sans reflection or research. My pride has not correlated with any success, mind you.

You going to compete again this year?

Loser!

I say that because you've never heard of the A2K pick-up NFL competition, not because of your (no doubt) amazing AA2 tactical articles.

And he would have done so even if he were born in England, I assure you. Cool

@Ticomaya,
I'll pass as well, back in its heyday in the 80s, when they showed matches on Channel 4, someone tried to explain the rules of American football to me. I lost interest half way through.

Well Tico--you know what the fat lady said--"No pain, no gain".

Nope. I joined up in the first place because I thought my sporting knowledge required that I had an understanding of NFL and that the only way to get it was to watch it with attention. It looked to me that the game was unsuitable for amateurs. I couldn't see how village teams could play it. Or women who are foolish enough to try it.

Not to mention the kit, a far cry from jumpers for goalposts.

Incidentally, although zillions of jocks have emigrated to England over the years, no English want to emigrate to Scotland because it's a cold dreary place, even the Romans turned up their noses at it..Smile
Hey wait I just remembered, one englishman did briefly emigrate to Scotland - Paul Gascoigne went to play for Rangers, but he always did have a screw loose!

@Romeo Fabulini,
Will you put a sock in it about bloody Scotland . It's bad enough having it on the news all the time. You and Alex Salmond have a lot in Common, you're both pissed off about the other side of the border. We get it.

Having said that Wales is probably reconsidering its position after Cardiff was relegated, and Swansea suffered a 0-1 thrashing at home, after Rickie Lambert scored in the dying seconds of the game.

Hey McTag, come clean and tell us if you're in favour of Scotland breaking away from England or not?
As I said before, if any Scots who are living in England want independence, we don't want them here and they should sod off back where they came from!
But if any Scots living in England DON'T want independence, we won't mind too much them staying in England..Smile

PS- Also, like I said before, if Scotland votes for independence, the jocks living in England are going to feel the backlash, because gangs of englishmen are going to go around "jock-bashing" in pubs etc and yelling "Why don't you *** off back where you came from?", regardless of whether the jock is for or against independence!
The gangs attitude will be- "A jock is a jock and deserves a good hiding for taking our jobs and housing!"..Wink

@Romeo Fabulini,

I've answered this question before, if you just look back.

Your opinion on these other conjectures is as valuable to me as it ever was.

And you haven't said yet, as I asked before- who is this "we" you claim to speak for? Is it you and three of your mates down the pub?
