@izzythepush,
Can Wigan escape? If they don't win you're both safe.

They're up against West Brom who are in fine form, but Wigan also have a game in hand.

@izzythepush,
Not good ... ah well, we've been there before. I'll put my head in the sand for the next few weeks - can't bear to look!

@vonny,
At least you kept a clean sheet and got a point.

@izzythepush,
And should have had a goal too, but it wasn't acknowledged by the referee! So unfair! But, let's face it, they've played badly this season - something is very wrong - and their recent games have been totally without passion, commitment or cohesion.

@vonny,
Saints should have had a couple, but that's football.

@izzythepush,
I can't wait for goal line technology. Commentaries might be less exciting - less 'did they', 'didn't they', but moments like today will be ended - everybody but the officials saw that goal go in! And Newcastle seem all too easily disheartened - instead of rising above something like that, they just seem to sag and collapse!

@vonny,
They are working men vonny. And they are basically doomed due to the fact that the wives of the better footballer are generally unwilling to relocate to areas far distant from what they think of as civilisation.

Alternating between the Championship and the Premier League is all they have to look forward to I'm afraid. There is a M1/M6 axis in play.

@spendius,

Nice to see Ozzie Ardiles and Ricky Villa in the stand at Tottenham yesterday.

Aren't UKIP a bunch of wankers? Nigel Farage reminds me of Swiss Tony. He is exactly how I imagine a used-car showroom manager from Purley. "Running a country is like making love to a beautiful woman!".

An estate agent surely? Or a curate.

Just as well they have fans like me then, isn't it, Spendius? Have you heard of something called 'loyalty'?

And you are wrong - it isn't a question of footballers or their wives not wishing to locate to Newcastle - it's the owner of our team refusing to pay for top talent. Chelsea, Man U and Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal - all of the top teams pay out obscene amounts for players.

Do you even like football? No, don't answer that, Spendius. I sometimes feel that you dislike everything, and everybody - except Dylan and Jane Austen.

Yes. I misjudged him, I see from Wikpedia, and in calling him a "used car salesman from Purley" I probably revealed something about my own snobbery. I did a Google and found that he is probably about as posh as I am, more or less. (That is the sort of situation where English snobbery is most acute).

His father was a stockbroker. Mine was an engineer. He was born near Sevenoaks in Kent. I was born near Redhill in Surrey. He went to Dulwich College. I went to Alleyn's School. (They are in the same foundation - he is an Old Alleynian and I am an Alleyn Old Boy)

Sure I have. But it doesn't apply to millionaire sandwich board bullies chasing a ball around a field. They are a betting medium and I support the teams I back.

Just to test your loyalty try putting £50 on the next team Newcastle play. (It's The Hoops at Loftus Road on May 12th).

I subscribe to Sky Sports. And I don't think footballer's pay is "obscene".

Roy Keane said it was and he negotiated with players when he was at Sunderland. Carroll, Shearer and your very self left the N.E. I have never lived anywhere more than 3 miles from where I was born.

Loyalty is what you do with your feet and not your mouth.

That's what Peter Cook used to do, he supported Spurs, but always bet against them so he'd have something to be cheerful about whatever the result.

That's not my reason.

PS--I remember Mr Nigel Evans calling for mobile phone thieves to be birched.
