@McTag,
The jury was drawn from The Cop. Defence objected to Everton fans on the grounds that their client wouldn't receive a fair trial.

@spendius,

Probably. Did you know, The Kop is named after a battle in the Boer War (an away defeat, actually) at a hill called Spion Kop.
The Kop at Anfield is not the only Kop at English football grounds, I believe, but I don't know where any others are.

Anyhoo

our green and pleasant land is being made a lot greener and a lot less pleasant this morning by INCESSANT BLOODY HEAVY RAIN.

Little chance of play today at Edgbaston, I'd have thought.

@McTag,
I'm sorry about my spelling error Mac. I hope you enjoyed rubbing my nose in it.

@spendius,

I actually thought it was a typo or absent-mindedness. Enjoyment? No. Would I do such a thing? Perish the thought. You must think of me as very shallow.
I hope you enjoyed my added-value comments about the Boer War, though.

Walter never reads what he types, and so typos abound in his stuff. Does anybody care? I doubt it.

@McTag,
I care. Typos show lack of respect when you know the writer could do better if the trouble was taken. You won't find many in my posts. "Cop" wasn't a typo.

Hey Spendy, your boys did well with the ball this afternoon. Bloomin' heck. What a turn-round after lunch.

Well done, need a few runs now.

@McTag,
Well Mac--it was a good toss to win. England ought to do it from here but it's a funny old game.

It looks as if it is fairly easy batting for a while after the heavy roller has been on and after that it gets tricky. The effect of the HR decreasing as they go.
The captain of the batting side has a choice of rollers before each innings.

They are not my boys. They are all arrogant lunks. They have to be mind you. And very tough.

A new map of the Underground has revealed the hottest spots for commuters.

The map of lines in Zones 1 and 2 was compiled by Transport for London to help identify areas with particularly high temperatures in mid-summer. The Central line has some of the worst spots, with the Bakerloo line also feeling the heat.

Tourist favourites Oxford Circus, Paddington and St Paul's are in the highest band.

According to the research by TfL's Cooling the Tube team, the network has recorded figures above 35C in all these areas, making the trains officially unfit for transporting cattle.

@Walter Hinteler,

Walter, we all have sweated in the foetid bowels of the metrollops.

Our underground carriages were originally designed to transport Sir Walter Raleigh's men to Waterloo.

New British invention, another world-beater. This car can also make a great cup of tea, very fast.

That's impressive, Walter. I don't think I could tell you what's on Frau Merkel's wish list.

@Ticomaya,

We will run out of oil before too long, eh? And then what? Wood chips and steam might not look too bad an option.

But I doubt it, to be honest.

I never understood why they invented the butterfly stroke in swimming either.

Spendy, I've just seen a TV prog by a soul-mate of yours, Jonathan Meades.

He likes to poke fun and rubbish established shibboleths, and does it in a very erudite and entertaining way.
This week he was on Lewis and Harris. He doesn't like the calvinists.

@McTag,
I don't like Calvinists either.

But I never see the guy. If I see him coming up I'll take a shufti. He had better be good if he's to justify your comparison.

Actually Mac, if you read my stuff carefully you might see that I poke fun and rubbish people who poke fun and rubbish established shibboleths. I'm a bit traditional.

Whether I do it in an erudite and entertaining way is for others to judge.
