I got a new pair of glasses last week and I can't seem to get used to them.

They hurt my ears, they hurt my nose and I can't see too well with them either.

Apart from that, they're fine.

It looks like if the Portugese genius isn't better taken care of by the groupies Man U might experience a goal famine and sink into the bottom half of the table.

Then we'll find out who the real fans are and who justs wannabee on the side that's winnin'

I would like to apologise for my silly post. I was, as they say somewhat the worse for wear. Actually I had reason, having had a free dinner courtesy of some ladies in the Hare (there is a story, but later) and cycled to the Cock to find Tottenham v Chelsea was not on tv and they were showing Utd v Bolton. And Utd won and will probably win the Premier League and I had a bit of a celebration before I wobbled home.

Hokay I'm off out to the pub again. When it's raining, what else can you do?

Meeting some ex-colleagues in Manchester.

Starting early, 5 o'clock, this has the potential of turning into a "black 'un".

well its 5pm so McT should be downing is first pint just about now...enjoy it

Since you are all dying to know how I got a free meal last night...well soddit I'm going to tell anyway.

At the Hare they do 2 for 1 meals. i.e. buy one get one free. There were 5 ladies (all nurses or doctors I think) eating and the landlady asked if they wanted the sixth meal as it would be free. They were then faced with a bit of a dilemma, wanting to take advantage of the offer, but not wishing to appear pig-like. So they compromised and insisted I had it.

(note to self, identify odd number parties in restaurant and sit in strategic position Smile)

What would you have done Spendy?

Well, I would have asked them before taking that generous offer if and how they were connected to Lister House and/or Princess Alexandra.

NB: you might wonder what could wait for you there, NOW!

Thats good advice Walter. And I'm still here to tell the tale so it wasnt some sort of experiment on a hapless male.

There is an expression here "Dont look a gift horse in the mouth"

or as my missus once said

"Dont kick a gift horse in the teeth"

Was it double steak pudding, double chips, mushy peas, 2 slices of soft white bread lathered with Irish Dairy butter, double gravy, salt and vinegar, choice of brown or red sauce and a pint of thick tea served by a sweaty English Rose with nothing on underneath her pink and white checked tunic with the top four buttons undone after four pints of John Smith's Extra Smooth?

What do you think I would have done?

You go in that restaurant too? Funny we've never met.

It was not a black 'un last night, me being a restrained and maturer gentleman I left the pub at ten o'clock, walked up London Road to Station Approach, had a fish supper with mushy peas from Antonio's and caught the 10:36 home.

Quote:
Mushy peas are dried marrowfat peas which are first soaked overnight in water and bicarbonate of soda, and then simmered with a little sugar and salt until they form a thick green lumpy soup. Sometimes mint is used to alter the flavour. Green colouring is often used. This is typically achieved by adding the yellow and blue additives, E102 and E133, which together produce the green effect. The use of artificial colours results in bright green mushy peas. Pure mushy peas, with no colouring, tend to form a more grey-green end product. Sodium bicarbonate is often added to soften the peas, enhance the colour and to inhibit fermentation during soaking which reduces later flatulence. They are a very traditional northern English accompaniment to fish and chips, all over the North are commonly served as part of the popular snack of pie and peas (akin to the Australian pie floater, but with mushy peas instead of a thick pea soup) and are considered a part of traditional British cuisine. Mushy peas can also be bought in tinned cans. They are also sometimes served in batter as a pea fritter. They are an acquired taste and most other civilized countries eschew the dish in favor of more flavorful side dishes

Are you shittin me? I wouldnt feed this slop to cattle? I think you guys'd eat silage if it were "traditional". Boy, Good thing John Adams prevailed in paying off the British claims after the revolution so we could get the ENglish to move out of their forts on the Ohio. Otherwise wed be planting "mushy peas" instead of delicious edible pod peas.

Mushy peas can also be used to fill draughty cracks in woodwork and waterproof your boots.

And you can get them onto a fork and into your gob without half of them rolling off and onto the floor.

We can't eat silage because of the cellulose. Why does Dylan make that point about cellulose in Masked and Anonymous fm? Is it a Darwinian joke?

We don't eat for "flavour" fm. That's girly. Bloody expensive as well. Bangs for bucks is the only game from an evolutionary point of view. Have you ever seen that vulture tucking into a chicken carcass on the sideboard while two chavs watch the football with a can of the beer the ad is promoting in their hands?

Thats remarkably perceptive of you S. Of course they didnt buy me the beer, well only 2 pints, but the rest is absolutely spot on. Of course 5 ladies was tiring, but hey, I ride a bike.
