Tarka the otter. Almost a documentary, but Tarka is the protagonist.
The Red Pony, a Steinbeck novel with music by Aaron Copland.
Ring of Bright Water, A man raises an otter.
Never Cry Wolf.
Andre, A man raises a seal.
I guess I'm a sap, but I always liked the Wishbone series on PBS.
The Adventures of Milo and Otis.

3. Old Yeller
4. Lassie Come Home
5. Black Beauty

I love just about all those films - I would add Flicka - just saw it a couple of weeks ago.

Dadpad, If you weren't halfway around the world, I'd give you a big wet kiss. Thanks for the laugh OUT LOUD.
BBB
"The Old Man and the Sea" with Spencer Tracy and the Fish.
BBB
The Natural History of the Chicken -- a strange little documentary.
One Man and His Dog -- a TV series (maybe it doesn' count?) that I adored... about Sheepdog Trials.
I wasn't completely kidding with "Jaws," but my favorite emotionally touching animal flick is "The Yearling."
After Free Willie I don't think any movie has made an emotional impact...
But well a Documentary had - March of the Penguins.
If documentaries are admissable the Walt Disney trilogy: The Living Desert, The Vanishing Prairie and The African Lion.
Jäniksen vuosi (1977, the Year of the Hare)
Breakfast at Tiffany's
