Hi,
I have an 10(?) year old Rainsoft Amazon-Q system(?) which has never been serviced but has always worked well- at least until now. Now every once in a while it doesn't empty the brine tank completely and all of the water in the house ends up salty. When I run a manual regen cycle it works fine and empties the brine tank like it should.
If you are out there H2OMan, I have 3 questions:
1.) I am trying to figure out how to get into the mode that allows you to quickly step through the various cycles manually for troubleshooting purposes (diagnostic mode). I remember seeing this trick when the unit was installed but the button sequence is nowhere to be found and the local dealer insists on coming out to my house (for $300) before he will tell me which buttons to push (assuming he even knows). Any hints?
2.) I am going to take a stab in the dark and guess that this has something to do with the infamous O-Rings. Do you know of a link somewhere that describes the process of removing/replacing these little dudes? Are they a standard size/ material that might be available at a well stocked hardware store or machine shop supply house?
3.) Finally, I am nearly certain that I should have had some sort of servicing done to this thing over the past 10 years. What needs to be done regularly? Change out the resin bed or carbon in the tank? Wash and wax? Take it out for a dinner and a movie???
Thanks so much for your dedication to helping people out H2OMan!
UNIT DESCRIPTION:
The unit has a red LED digital display, a membrane button control panel with 4 columns (all red buttons on left, 2 center columns with white buttons and the last column yellow and blue buttons) and it is housed in a green metal housing with a second smaller green metal cover behind it that covers two parallel rotating disks (cams) on a front to back horizontal shaft attached to the motor. This valve sits on the single resin tank (green) and the brine tank is the tall, square green one with the black lid.
USER DESCRIPTION:
Very competent home shop machinist with a degree in physics that does things like building working engines from nothing but metal rod stock. Not afraid to rip into this thing to fix it. Adverse to the thought of paying some rude jerk to come out and charge me $300 to change a couple of O-rings.
The piston and brine injector O rings, drain and brine tabs need to be replaced.
The Tri-Guard will need to be sealed ... this should do the trick as long as nothing else has worn out.
I have seen the diagnostic button sequence once, but it was long ago and I can't remember it.
I will see if I can dig it up for both of us.
I'm sure you can handle the job if you are able to find the parts, but it may be
best to ship it to someone like me and have it refurbished with factory parts.
Another option is to replace the obsolete valve and brine control with a Fleck SE valve.

H2OMan- You rock!!!!

WOW! Thanks for the ultra quick response! If I could be so bold as to impose for just a few more minutes of your time...
1.) Any idea how much it would cost to send it back to you for a rebuild (just a rough approximation)? [I don't have a problem paying a helpful, considerate and competent person to work on this thing if they will fix it correctly.]
2.) How much does the new Fleck SE valve cost? Is it a better solution than a rebuild?
3.) Finally, just to verify, is my system an amazon Q?
Thank you sooo much! You are truly a Godsend to those of us with Rainsoft systems!

No problem, just send me an email with these questions and I will cover all of your options in detail.
Yes, you do have a Q.
