Vivien, thank you! I spent a week in Dordogne a couple of years ago. It is sooo beautiful there! Thanks for reminding me! Laughing

Were those taken in the springtime? I ask because that one view of a field seems to be of one which had recently been planted.

they were taken in the last 2 weeks of May this year - the fields are planted with tobacco, sweetcorn and sunflowers - too early to be sure what was what yet! i went there in September/October last time and so the field were all over 6ft high in crops so it was very different.

The orchards are mainly walnuts

An (perhaps) interesting aside: out of the more than 300 bastides in France (both French and English), Domme is one of the few (16) in Dordogne (and of French origin).

The historique name (and used today synonymously)of this département is 'Le Périgord'.

Quote:

Domme, like dozens of other bastides, changed from French to British occupation, as well as British bastides were occupied by the French.
I was referring in my above post to the original foundation.

You did, Vivien?! It is very lovely. We went there with friends who had friends who owned a house there. We had a wonderful time. I absolutely love the castles that you find all over. It's like driving through a fairytale country...

Oh lucky you - hope that means you'll be able to go again. We stayed in a wonderful converted barn near Domme in a tiny little hamlet with just a few houses - bliss!
