Oh god, what a disappointment.

I am so glad I did not spend the money to see this at the theater. The case of Beth Short was literally a side line in this movie. And the "facts" were not facts at all.

She was not a whore.
They put her in a porn film, which cannot be proved to have ever existed.
They presumed to know where the murder actually took place and what happened between the time she went missing and the time her body was found.
They found the killer. I was like "what the....". Shocked Considering they still to this day don't have one solid lead as to who did this. They still have a whole bunch of suspects.

Not to mention, out of the entire 2 and 1/2 hours of the movie, they devoted maybe 30 minutes to the story of Beth Short.

Wasn't that what the movie was suppose to be about????

Then I realized it was based on a book. And that the book was largely fiction. I wish they had marketed it as such.

Maybe had I not known the real story so well and had I not anticipated actually seeing a movie about what really happened, I might have liked it. Oh and had they actually made the movie about the Black Dahlia murder.

If you can get past the whole part about it not being true OR about the Black Dahlia murder, you might like it.

It's more the story of 2 cops than it is about anything else.

I hated this movie. It was coy and pretentious about its subject and vainly attempted to be noir, using "LA Confidential" mixed with the comic book extrapolation of "From Hell" as a basic model. The whole thing gave me a headache, or a stomach ache, I'm not sure which. I would also have been pissed if I paid money to see this -- I did rent it, so I'm out the $2.00.

We rented it on demand and I probably saw 1/3 of it - it's just a bad
movie.
