JLN's comment about "anchoring" moral codes make perfect sense. Every war involves a shifting of "morality" on its anchor chain. This is lampooned by the chaplein in Catch 22 who is instructed to pray for "a tight bomb pattern",

You don't need religion to realize that "war is dumb."

Well, if he can do whatever he wants he can obviously disregard whatever he wants.

All I am saying is that a being that is omnipotent is also all knowing and all present, since these things can be defined in terms of action. To be everywhere is an act of potency, same as to know everything.
You can operate devices by remote control, can you not? You can choose not to read the last page of the whodunit, can you not? Why would an all powerful being not have similar options?

Since it's a given that in the process of dumbing himself down he would loose abilities, he could not be all-powerful after the fact.

It's impossible to be all-powerful without being all-knowing, which of course make the word omnipotent absurd.

Maybe god went a little (well maybe a lot) too far in dumbing himself down Razz

Chumly, You bring up some interesting ideas about sacrificing oneself for others. I wonder if it would make a difference depending on who we think we're saving to risk our lives? How about 50 prisoners riding in a prison bus? That compared to 50 children riding in a school bus. No contest; the majority will pick the school bush without much hesitation. It gets interesting, however, if we put a mix of different looking people into that bus. How about 50 seniors? How about 50 women? How about 50 men? Will the respondent's answer change with the mix of people in the bus? hmm.... Interesting dilemma.

Someone gave me a copy. I never even made it to page three, but I think I read the back of the book, so I'm an expert Wink

"Dumbing down" . . . Those are your words. And what are loose abilities?

"Dumbing down" (my term) = "screening" (your term) but I'm actually thinking your god might prefer Venetian blinds to screens.

"Loose abilities" are the antithesis of tight abilities, if you are of sic mind and of juvenile proclivity.

Just to bring up some heat.

From my personal experience, Atheists are far more intelligent than Theists. And as for Atheism being just another belief system, what the hell do you think all the other religions are. Whoever stated this is the hypocrite he says Atheists are.

So we can assume you are one of the 'smarter than you guys' atheists to whom you refer?

Do you consider everyone who disagrees with you to be less intelligent than yourself?

Or is this a prejudice you reserve for theists only?

BTW He says he posted 'Just to bring up some heat.'

But apparently he can't take the heat, nor defend his apparent prejudice.

Is that what you were referring to as 'bravado' , CI?
