It would be an interesting turn of events if all the gays who are in the Catholic hierarchy suddenly left the church (like a strike). How many parishes would fold overnight? Take a guess. Of course, it would be hard for them to give up their priestly drag.

tart I almost forgot this item i just read in a book (if its in print it must be true) the pope has forgiven the jews for not burning cleaner in the nazi ovens resulting in a higher than normal smudge on the windows of the vatican during WWII. He said all was forgiven if they would convert.

hahahahaa...Nice try but clearly you've got nothing - NOTHING to verify the existence of jesus. It's farcical at best.

Do you think you can book me an appt with jesus after his appt with santa claus and the tooth fairy?

M & M's were invented by Jesus, didn't you know? They melt in your mouth, not on your hands and really should be served at mass instead of those hateful, dry little wafers.

And I saw the heavens open, and I heard the word of the Lord saying: "Amen I say unto thee: Prove to me that Wenchilina exists, and she will get an appointment."

But proof was nowhere to be found. And when I looked at Wenchilina's words, it all seemed like a farce. So the heavens were once again closed, and silence invaded the land.

The word of Maliagar

Sure, Lola, but you gotta bring your own! I'm not a sharer of Heath Bars, are you? My county seat has a shop which sells homemade icecream in many killer flavors - the best lately being pecans (fresh, local), chocolate chunks (homemade), and amaretto (who knows!). I'd be glad to set aside of pint of that for you?

Historical notations, such as the two Maliagar has finally referenced, constitute valid evidence (given that the translations are accurate) to such questions as whether JC was an historical figure, though of course in this instance, not nearly enough evidence to settle the matter. But there's rather a lot of good research suggesting the fellow isn't simply a mythical figure.

Maliagar

You truly are a pompous ass. As the purpose of my request was quite lost on you, so have been the comments of almost everyone you've responded to. Very frankly, you are considerably less well educated in the matters at hand than you believe or pretend, less deft in logic and rhetoric, and much more deserving of the class dunce cap than your ego and lack of humility seem likely to allow you to perceive. If heaven has gates, they will have to be wide indeed for your substantial spirit-arse to waddle through. I think it likely we shan't be talking again.

A case of Heath bars (but I'm going to rifle a few of them for myself). Of course, I don't trust information on sites on the internet from quesionable sources. If a really learned theologian were to put the evidence together and present it in a coherant manner, I might be convinced. I personally believe that Jesus did exist although he looked nothing like has been portrayed by artist, especially the famous profile of Jesus gazing up at heaven. The evidence I've seen and read is that he was a short, non-descript dark hair individual who would likely be laughing (wherever he might be) by the casting of these pretty boys to depict his persona.

I will admit that the final scenes of "Ben Hur" are inspiring and sincerely heartfelt, that is if you really want to believe this fiction.
This was the most tasteful, unsensational dipiction of the Crucifixion. Most of the others are overwrough theatrics that would make "Madam X" seem unmanipulative. Mel is no William Wyler so my expectations are not high, meaning I might be pleasantly surprised. That really isn't saying much since the praise the rough cut is getting and from whom seems patronizing and biased to a fault. There's an underlining enthusiasm that his will recruit believers -- carry on, Mr. Gibson as they church certainly needs some good PR.

Blatham

The first link sent me to a copy of the epistles - which have ALREADY been proven to be a fraud.

The second link provides me Testimonium Flavianum and points to the beloved bit mentioning jesus which has been shown to be a forgery, an interpolation by a Christian practicing pious fraud that historians/scholars have stated time and time again. Ironically, the very first 'christian' who quoted the Testimonium was Bishop Eusebius - and among all the church, Eusebius was one of the strongest advocates of the doctrine of pious fraud.

So, Blatham providing internet links to fraudelent and highly questionable sources does not validate his or any cause.

Look! Jesus is an integral part of anti-alien abduction proceedures! http://www.abductions-alien.com/...this is a clear and valid case for alien abduction. Rolling Eyes

I understand that the fellow's research methods are poor and a number of his notions (eg, re objectivity) dull-headed, but the quotations themselves are sound.

I'm not much interested in getting in a fight with a bunch of folks here, but if I were, I'd take your second paragraph to task.

The following will steer you to a number of reputable scholars working in the field and to some of their relevant publications. I'm particularly a fan of Elaine Pagels and her books are readily available at larger bookstores. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/religion/etc/bios.html
