A2k is getting like a good aussie bbq. The women ar all in the kitchen (AKA Diary of a madhouse wife thread) bemoaning fat arses, gympants that cost too much and cabin fever and the mins are outside discussing storms and firewood.

Since 7 o'clock in the morning, saws are to be heard around here: firebrigade, volunteers from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief, gardeners are doing their job.

Nothing dramatic actual in the closest neighbourhood at at ours:

some fir trees have left a couple of branches

and a tree in the neighbour's garden fell down

(Okay, this will give me some difficulties getting along the drive with the car ...)

Same here, Walter.

There are chainsaws going it all over the place at the moment.

A lot calmer this morning, although the Beeb say that the North of England will have some more gales later in the day.

spoke to my sister in italy last night.

i asked if there was any damage in her area from the storm.
she said, "what storm?"
i said, "the big storm in europe. lots of damage, some fatalities."
her: "i was in school teaching today."
me: "i can't believe you didn't hear about this."
her: "nope. nothing."

glad you folks are ok...

Actually, we have a tropical downpour, and it was only 81 as I drove home.

Welcome to global warming.

Blimey, Nimh, it seems that a large part of Europe was damaged!

This must have been one hell of a large storm system!

Things have really quietened down now, in the UK. The final death tally seems to be nine, according to the Beeb, and insurance companies are bracing themselves for a massive volume of claims tomorrow.

This is weird...we're having typical October weather in January, some three months late!
Rumour has it that Easter will be postponed to July, and next Christmas will be at the end of March 2008.

Does this mean Jesus will come twice?

Sorry...couldn't resist....but I am truly sorry to hear of the deaths and damage.

These photos are from about 10 mins outside town.

I hope you get our weather, then, DP...because it is tropical here...87% humidity.....raining since last night, on and off, and I mean RAINING.

And not just Adelaide!

6.6 millimetres here, though (not sure how much that is in real measurements.......)

Cahin saws and people handling it aren't thaaat problem here - tilers are wanted.

(I didn't stop to take a photo, but the village next to my hometown looks worse than after a bomb attack - on some dozen houses' roof, that is.)
