Pudu mephistophiles is a deer the size of a small dog. It occurs in the northern Andes. The pudú is a solitary animal whose behavior in the wild is largely unknown.

@Roberta,
I always think that all the dogs in the Westminster are beautiful animals. Picking the "best" by whatever microscopic margin of subjective difference they have seems questionable. On the other hand, this is how artificial selection works. And without it all these dogs would just be beautiful wolves.

I really like dogs who are allowed to live a dog´s life and not some artificial beauticontest life like this poor thing.
A dog should be judge according to its natural beauty and not what we humans have done to it. German shepards´backs are now in such a bad shape, look at poor dogs, who cannot breath, others can hardly walk.
Dog exhibitions can be very good, but.....

@rosborne979,
rosborne, I agree that all the dogs at Westminster are wonderful and beautiful. It just so happens that German shepherds are my favorite breed. This stems from my watching Rin Tin Tin when I was a kid. I wanted that dog.

@edgarblythe,
I like dogs and usually get along well with dogs.
German shepards I have great respect for - I have had three different neighbours with German shepards and they were so agressive. One eveen had two - they just jumped over the fence and attaced other dogs.
It cannot just be a coincedence they are used at watch dogs at the worst kind of camps.

@saab,
German Shepherds should be trained. They are exceptionally intelligent and have high energy levels. I have had experience with many personalities of these dogs. A few had me somewhat frightened, but most are good dogs, in my estimation. The key is the training.

@edgarblythe,
And of course the beautiful dog reminds me of dear Katy.

I've been meaning to add a sort of wild moose video from the National Geographic folks..
