satt, That's a charmer. Is somebody embarrassed in that picture?

hamburger, Wonderful shot. A bit intimate for public display, but a fun photo.

Wild turkeys. Probably too late to tell them to quit prancing around and hide.

Here is another submission of our local wildlife. This one by Margarethe B.

Antelope Squirrel in a Cholla cactus. For those not familiar with cholla. those spines are very sharp and barbed so that they go in easy and come out hard. It has always amazed me how the birds and small rodents can negotiate the hazards and actually use them for protection.

And here is a kitty picture for you Roberta. This was a backyard photo by Collins Cochran. The caption said it was stalking his two cats which were sleeping on the porch.

mesquite, You never disappoint. One gorgeous shot after another.

I've noticed that a number of the photos you posted recently had birds and small animals in cacti. I don't know how they do it either.

Is that feline a lynx?

Thanks, jes, for the photo and the link.

A few years ago you and I were considering adopting a baby rhino, who was gonna live in your driveway. Whatever happened to that plan?

Roberta, that feline was a Lynx Rufus aka Bobcat. Re the cactus, some of the birds such as the Thrashers and Cactus Wrens build their nests in the Cholla. I'll have to see if I can find a good photo of that.

Here is another great shot by Tom Ryan. The caption is Tom's.

Problem is, it's getting cold here. Baby rhino would be chilled. Maybe I could get it an electric blanket (there's an outdoor plug in the back). Would that be hazardous if it rained or snowed?

PS The squirrels are fantastic. And the birds! They brighten my day! We saw a lot of blue jays and grackles at my folks' over the T-day weekend.

Beautiful color on that Bluejay Jes. Reminds me of a digression on one of the evolution threads..."Why is a Bluejay blue?"

Here is another cute squirrel. This one by captured by Doris Evans is a Round-tailed ground squirrel snacking on a Mesquite flower.
