Military working dog Charlie poses for a group photo during his retirement at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., Aug. 23, 2013. Charlie retired after 10 years of dedicated service, including seven deployments and receiving the Purple Heart for injuries he endured in Afghanistan.

This is Gump - he is the last of his species, the Christmas Island Forest Skink - read all about him and what went wrong here: https://theconversation.com/australian-endangered-species-christmas-island-forest-skink-18053

@hingehead,
vonny, The tongue out is a nice touch. Koalas are too cute. Ooh, a black swan--and goslings. Lovely. Great squirrel photo. Thanks.

Reg, Such a glorious picture. Thanks, kid.

FS. I don't know what kind of geese those are, but that is one stunning picture. Wow and a half.

tsar, I ain't afeared of any of those animals. Why. I'm on the upper east side of Manhattan. Not where they hang out. Not so sure about the vampire bat info. They can transmit rabies.

London, Hoping Charlie's retirement finds him in a comfortable and loving home. He's a beauty.

HH, Are you suggesting that the raccoon hangs around a2k? Like the bit of snow on its nose. Makes me smile. Sad story about the skinks. So many endangered species. The story suggested that one of the reasons for the species' extinction might be nonnative species. This is a problem in many places. We've got a problem in the Everglades. Pythons are there and breeding. No native species is a match for a python. Sigh.

The Everglades:

@vonny,
Vonny? What you now need is an even smaller turtle to sit on top of the head of the second turtle. Blow everyone's mind!

@tsarstepan,
vonny, A hitchhiker tortoise. Tres cute. I guess there are foxholes and then there are fox holes. Beautiful shot. Is that third reptile a turtle or an earring? Adorable.

tsar, The little pig is a cutie. That's one big wabbit. An interesting duo. Thanks for the otter video.

FS, Dem pythons just keep growing and growing. What is it with cats and string. Sorry to hear about Bigsy. A recent loss.

Zebras (you can see how a predator would have a hard time picking one out of the herd):
