Wiki

The fennec fox or fennec (Vulpes zerda) is a small nocturnal fox found in the Sahara of North Africa. Its most distinctive feature is its unusually large ears, which serve to dissipate heat. Its name comes from the Arabic word فنك (fanak), which means fox, and the species name zerda comes from the Greek word xeros which means dry, referring to the fox's habitat.[2] The fennec is the smallest species of canid in the world. Its coat, ears, and kidney functions have adapted to high-temperature, low-water, desert environments. In addition, its hearing is sensitive enough to hear prey moving underground. It mainly eats insects, small mammals, and birds.

I be bad, sorry........

Well, the coyotes still won't open in a new page; I suppose they're protected as it's a set by one photographer, which is fine with me, I was just confused for a bit - but here's a link to see the good slide show and article:
http://blog.sfgate.com/stienstra/2013/07/01/readers-response-coyotes-in-the-city-20-best-letters/
(I always am interested in what Stienstra brings up in the Chronicle)

From Day in Pictures, a different article, here's a heron:

@Rockhead,
Why is this the first time I've ever thought hedgehogs need epidurals?

@Rockhead,
vonny, The sea lions are a fine pair.

timur, It's rare to see a fenec out in the daytime. Great pic. Thanks.

Debacle, That hummingbird is breathtaking. Sigh.

rosborne, They may not smell good, but they look great. Thanks for the skunks.

osso, It doesn't surprise me at all that there are coyotes in San Francisco. They're in NYC, so why not? Great shot of the great blue herons. A doozy.

firefly, That is one tiny cutie. Thanks mucho.

RH, Hedgehogs. Do they get along with chickens? Tres adorable. And spiky. If you decide to have the hedgehogs doing fancy stuff, please promise me that you will NOT put clothes on them, including a hat!

HH, Hedgehogs would have orange eggs? Spiky maybe. But orange?

Haven't had much to contribute lately, business and weather being what they've been this past week or so.
