Cats with a beautiful owner (who I hope gets some neutering attended to):

There's never enough counter space in Kim Ruiz's kitchen, especially not when her pooch is patrolling the floor of her home in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens. In addition to her own cats, Ruiz rescued five felines during Superstorm Sandy. Her public housing apartment still doesn't have heat.

More cats:

We all have the same dad: Cats with similar markings sun themselves in an alley in Kolkata.

Well, this isn't cricket: An interloper interrupts the tour match between England and Haryana at Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.

@Barry The Mod,
Almost 15,000 replies, close to 900,000 views. It's a behemoth that just needs some nudging.

Hi gang, I wrote a response to each and every one of you commenting on and thanking you for each and every picture. Where's the post? Somewhere in cyberspace. Phooey.

Thanks to you all. You guys are the best.

@Roberta,
Phooey, I hate when that happens. Sometimes I can click back and find it, but not always.

Waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus) migrate to the UK from northern Scandinavia and Russia in autumn and can arrive in huge numbers when their favourite food, berries, are in short supply back home.

@ossobuco,
osso, I think waxwings are stunners. Thanks for the pic and the info.

A friend sent me a toy loon. It's a cute little thing. It has sound effects--the sound of a loon. I love this sound. Haunting and birdy.

(My friend was a prof at Cornell, so this is probably where the toy comes from.)

@Roberta,
Despite the common saying, there's nothing at all crazy about a loon. Not wanting to be where humans are is a sign of great wisdom and most wild animals share that wisdom and feeling.
