Hi osso and thanks for the invite back into the thread!

I'd guess white deer and a slow shutter but since guesses aren't worth much I looked it up and pieced the story together from a couple of different sites:

Quote:
Taken in County Wicklow, Ireland 1967 Paul Caponigro was photographing a rare herd of white deer on a private forested estate. When the herd began to move at a rapid rate, he had just enough time to make a single exposure.

Quote:
PC: Yes. And a difficult negative at that. Thirty-inch bellows extension in order to hide in the trees so the animals wouldn’t see me, wide-open and a long exposure. I used an Irish sheepdog. I got the owner to get the dog to corral a few dozen of the deer down at the far end of the field and on my signal get him to chase them in my direction. I had my camera set. I had my shutter cocked, slide out and I gave him a signal. The dog went after them and this one deer took the lead and I thought, “Oh, I don’t believe this. They’re all following that one to form a clear line of running beasts.”

It's a gorgeous photo!

Amazing!

You're a fast researcher, Boomer. And now we've heard of a herd.

@ossobuco,
Actually, though it has been stated elsewhere that they WERE in actuality white deer. Though that doesn't attest to them being albino deer..just that they are white.

However, back then (as now), they can be altered in the darkroom (or using image editing s/w) to look like albino deer.

Having been a lab-rat myself and having taken several darkroom courses on Zone System. Ansel Adams manipulated his Yosemite (sp?) shots in such a way that suited him compositionally to expose and darken or lighten them in the final print to the extent where they would have better local contrast and stand out from the background. He made the famous storm image of the vallet seem far mor dramtic where in reality it was not nearly that way in real life.

My specific recollection of this image was that it was time-lapse image made of a herd of deer - not an individual.

{Edit: oops, I see where you corrected your thought about it being an individual deer}

@tsarstepan,
He doesn’t snap at all, but he will hiss and claw if you try to pick him up and he’s got some sharp claws!

I'm going to look for his baby picture now Cool

Here he is, nows he's almost too heavy to pick up.

@jcboy,
Builder, The chicks are wonderful. Not sure I've ever seen emu chicks. Thanks.

Boomer, Good to see you here. Thanks for solving the mystery. It's a brilliant photo.

jc, Mazel tov on the weight gain. Is this tortoise the younger or the elder? The shell is beautiful. I'm glad he doesn't snap. Thanks for the pics.

Turns out there are a number of herds of white deer. Shows you how much I know. Here's a video of one herd. These animals are amazingly beautiful:

@Builder,
Such a face!

Now for a panda face:

You can't believe where they want to put the thermometer! The San Diego Zoo's 11-week-old panda cub has just begun to walk - the better to escape veterinarians who want to prod and probe him!

Pen pals: When Colleen Flowers of Twin Lakes, Idaho, discovered that a stray calico had sneaked into her corral and begun herding her sheep, she did what any smart rancher would do - she gave the cat a job. Now the 5-month-old kitty, dubbed Tori, and Snowy, one of Colleen's Barbados sheep, are snuggle buddies. We're not sure why Tori's on a leash, though.

I am too a lap dog: Russell, the recently appointed professional courthouse facility dog for the Southern Arizona Children's Advocacy Center in Tucson, gets accustomed to his new duties, which in this case include lying on Kyra McGuire.

@ossobuco,
osso, Hey, kid. If your parents, won't let you keep the puppy, I'll take it. Very dear photo. The deer head does look like it's floating. Two good 'uns, osso. Thanks. I don't think it's possible for a panda to take a bad picture. They're magical looking animals. Glad to see the farmyard friends. I'm wondering about the leash too. The courthouse dog reminds me of my cousin Timmy. Great looking dog. And the kid doesn't seem to mind at all that he thinks he's a lapdog.

av, This time I can see the felines. Down at the bottom. This may be the first view I've had of snow leopards who aren't in snow. The dawg is too much. Somewhere amidst the wrinkles is a face. Thanks, kid.

Liking the mules, Barry. I hope the packs aren't too heavy.

Builder, That koala is not camera shy. It may be wondering if the camera will make its nose look big. Yes, k, it will. Great shot.

Following is another animal beyond human imagination. A scalloped hammerhead shark:

@ossobuco,
Now that's how dogs should be treated - really helping people. Not aiding a bunch of marauding invaders like the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, ... .
