A Japanese spider crab gets a scrub-down from a worker in the Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, on Tuesday. The giant crabs, whose legs can grow up to 1.25 meters (4 feet) long, need occasional cleaning to remove disease-harboring algae from their shells.

We use to walk around the desrt in S Calif or AZ with UV lights looking for specific rocks and we would always get a couple scorpions or another beetle (forget the name) that would flouresce.

Baby Sjakie was born in a Dutch zoo on May 19. Because its mother wasn't producing enough milk, zookeepers had to feed it more using a syringe. But sloths like to cuddle when they eat, so zookeepers are using a teddy bear as a subsitute mother for Sjakie to cling to during feedings.

@tsarstepan,
olga, A tree kangaroo. Such beautiful coloring. And a sweet face. Thanks, kid.

Another doozy arachnid, FBM. Thanks. (And you were worried about posting spider pics.)

tsar, That's one big crab! I'm glad to see it's being well cared for. Hey, scrub person, don't forget behind the ears. Lovely little sloth. Made me smile. Thanks, kid.

HH, Such beautiful pics. Are the scorpions dancing? Tres wonderful. Thanks. Just saw the mouse pic. Too good. I didn't faint, but it was close. Major thanks.

Here an elephant is surrounded by a flock of birds (not locusts(:

Swallows in the snow. Love the two little guys on the lower twig. But at the moment, I like looking at the snow:

She is a beauty, Roberta.

Does anyone else consider mosquitos to be beautiful? They sorta are, in their own way. I found this one (dead) and tried to manage a macro out of it:

@FBM,
FBM, Never thought much about how mosquitoes look. Here's a live one, having a little drink. It does have a certain beauty. It is what it is.

@FBM,
It's hard to tell what I'm looking at. Spiders? Is the second one in a raindrop? Very kewel.

@Roberta,
Yep. Very, very small spiders. The second one is in its web, which is tunnel-shaped, and that's either dew or raindrops caught in the web.
