@hingehead,
I'm guessing that is a buzzard of one sort or another. they are kinda cool to watch, but rather gross eaters...

So I'm out of the house for the first time in weeks, and what happens? I'm overwhelmed with gorgeousity. I should go out more often.

Barry, That is one helluva picture. Thanks, mucho.

HH, The scallop is beautiful. Are you sure those are eyes and not jewels. Spectacular, kid. The squid is beyond belief. That's real animal? Gawgeous. The little deer is dear. Thanks muchisimo.

Barry posted the pic of the little deer, not hingehead. Mea culpa. Sorry Barry. I think I'm getting to old for this job. Sigh. What's next? I won't be able to tell the difference between a crocodile and an alligator. Oh the ignominy.

High Seas, That is one teeny weeny amphibian. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea there were frogs so small.

Irish, A Bengal tiger in the snow? I guess he's adapting. He's a beauty. Thanks.

dj, The B&Os are beauties. The second otter looks worred to me. Hey, otter. Relax. I'll do the worrying for both of us.

tsar, The expression on that seal pup's face is wonderful. Hey, get this weirdo offa me. Eat the fish. He's just trying to help.

HH, I suspect that's some kinda vulture, but I'm not even close to sure. Whatever it is, it's seen better days.

This cheeky chimp couldn't resist taking a quick peek down his keeper's top as she held him close to her chest. Photographer Cyril Ruoso captured the moment at Pandrillus Drill Sanctuary, Nigeria. He said: "It's a funny shot. However, for the chimp his actions have a social meaning. Grooming or physical interaction is a way to show how close you are to another individual. This isn't the first time I have seen apes taking an interest in humans. I once met an Orangutan in Borneo who loved to groom my hairy chest even when I was wearing a shirt."

A bee balances two water droplets on its back as it perches on a flower. The picture was taken by keen photographer Agus Sudarmanto near Doha, Qatar. He said: "There is no rain at all here so we have to spray water periodically on flowers. This is the reason there were drops on the bee, but it was amazing how it was just delicately balanced on his back."

@Irishk,
Irish, Do you have any idea how much I love chimps? I do, you know. Great chimpy pic. The bee picture is exquisite. Jewel droplets. Thanks.

dj, Wonderful video. Maybe those otters need more enrichment in their enclosure. Send in a moth.

An African Crowned Crane that was found wandering the streets of Encinitas, California, is shown safe at the County Department of Animal Services. The bird, normally found on the savannas of Africa, was coaxed into a woman's garage after she found it honking at her on her home driveway.

A seal looks out of a bath at a sanctuary in Pieterburen, the Netherlands, which was flooded with seals weakened during last week's stormy weather. Currently there are about 360 seals at the sanctuary which normally just has room for about 80 animals. A tent containing bath tubs and small swimming pools was placed on the premises to accommodate the extra numbers.

@Irishk,
The Siberian Tiger Park in Harbin, northern Heilongjiang province, China has to be the most inhumane zoo in the world.Visitors are driven around the "zoo" in armoured trucks.Depending on the size of your wallet,you can have live animals fed to the tigers and you can watch the carnage in front of you.Chickens,goats and cows are on the menu,all LIVE of course.WARNING<WARNING<WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are some VERY nasty scenes here....

@Irishk,
This is a female polar bear photographed from a Russian ship in the Chukchi Sea (how did they know she was female, anybody knows?). Link and caption: http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2012/01/10/plight-of-the-ice-bear/
Quote:
During a storm in Russia’s Chukchi Sea, an adult female polar bear struggled to keep her head above the waves. Swimming in rough seas far from land, and even farther from the nearest sea ice, she faced an uncertain fate.

Wiki wrote:
An adult male weighs around 350–680 kg (770–1,500 lb),[4] while an adult female is about half that size.

Other than that, specialists say there are as many differences between a male and a female polar bear as between human male and female.
