I wonder if anyone has tried to domesticate Sand Cats? Too cute.

@hingehead,
Wonderful shots, hinge.
I particularly like this little fellow ...
The facial expression, such alert eyes, those fingers, the skin details...
What a wonderful photograph!

@hingehead,
I don't know about them being domesticated but they are so adorable. On www.zooborns.com they have some pictures of some new baby ones. Too cute!

That lizard looks like he's smiling.

It was dark outside this morning when I walked out front to put food out for the stay cat when this nasty looking opossum like this one walks towards me, I thought it was the cat. I almost had a heart attack.

@jcboy,
i walk to the edge of the local town every morning, where i make my turn to head back home, there's an overgrown drain/culvert, most mornings i hear snorting/snuffling and rustling in the grass, i suspect an opossum but i haven't been brave enough to check it out

@hingehead,
i was sitting outside talking to some people who seemed familiar but i couldn't place them (i think they might have been my minds eye version of some message board people, one might have been arella mae)

anyway, can't remember the conversation but there were bunnies and sand cats hopping and running around the area we were sitting in

at one point i picked up a sad cat kitten, it had really sharp and pronounced claws, not sure what their claws are really like

like many of my dreams it sort of fade and morphed into something else after a short time

Oppossums are more afraid of you than you are of them. We have them here in Louisiana. Some come up and eat with the cats. If you charge at him or make a loud noise he'll do one of two things: he'll either faint or he'll run off. You must never have met Heidi the crosseyed oppossum? She's famous and on the net.

It was still dark when I went out this morning, I've heard they don't see well at night, he did't seem afraid of me, but I sure was of him lol.

@jcboy,
Somehow I've never been afraid of opossums - we had one who I think lived under our house in Venice.. I would see him or her at night up in the liquidambar tree.

I did read once a long time ago about how to make possum pie, but I sort of liked ours. We had cats, but he or she must have had enough to eat otherwise.

Usually, out of fright, the oppossum will hiss at you and bear those ugly teeth of his thinking you are gonna be afraid. I have heard, but don't know how true it is, that they hiss because they think they sound like a snake. Probably a myth. I walked out of my house once and there was an oppossum (a little baby one) right on the first stair and he let out a horrible loud hiss. Scared me half to death. I slammed the door and didn't go out until it got light. At that time, I wasn't buying they are more afraid of me than I am of them. LOL

@Arella Mae,
Oh you are right about the hiss, at first I thought it was the cat but when I got a little closer it did hiss, and they do play dead. I found one dead on my patio, the dogs left it there for me one morning. Another time I saw my dog catch one and when I yelled at him he dropped it, I brought the dogs in the house, went back outside to dispose of the dead animal and it was gone!
