Two Little Owls (Athene noctua) were spotted getting affectionate as they prepared to start their mating season. Wildlife photographer Roy Mangersnes captured the romantic scene outside Lleida, in the Catalonia region of Spain. He explains: "There were some lovely shows of affection; when the female approached the male he would seem to gently "kiss" her forehead.

A dog nurses two liger cubs at Xixiakou Wildlife Zoo in Weihai in east China's Shandong province. Four cubs were born to a female tiger and a male lion on May 13. The tiger mother fed the ligers for four days then abandoned them. Zoo workers brought in a dog to nurse them instead, but two died of weakness.

That dog is in for a shock. Ligers grow bigger than tigers. Owl love. Sigh. Adorable rats.

Here's another cute rodent:

@Roberta,
Sun bathing squirrel, munching on a treat.

Love little Changi's hand/foot..

"Tsk, tsk. Shoddy workmanship: Baby Changi, almost a year old, inspects frayed upholstery in his enclosure at the zoo in Krefeld, Germany."

Arella Mae, Thanks for the heartwarming video. Gorgeous fawn. Lucky to have been rescued.

Irish, I know that grebes have some interesting feather-dos. This one is, well, too much. Love white peacocks. I have a painting of two of them on my living room wall. There's a special place in my heart for pygmy hippos. Thanks for the pic, kid
