Hedgehogs are born blind and without quills, which are just beneath the skin and easily visible just hours after birth. They can be found throughout Europe, Asia and Africa and have been introduced in Australia, New Zealand and North America. As one of the first mammals, hedgehogs have been around for 15 million years!

Irish, one picture better than the next better than the next. Keep 'em comin', kid. Love the bear tug-of-war. Love the tiger sized snowball. Love 'em all.

tsar, An imposing and impressive, don't-mess-with-me eagle. In a woid, wow.

Intrepid, Dem guys is cute. I didn't know they were such early versions of mammals. Glad to learn something new.

Daschund puppy (cute enough for ya?):

@djjd62,
Plotzing from the bunny. So young, its eyes are still closed. Otters, amorous or otherwise, are wonderful.

This cuteness is soooooooooooooooooo addicting! I had no clue anteaters came in the color of polar bears. That little bunny is oh so precious and them otters need to get a room.

The best day of fishin' ever!!!
I've heard of salmon jumping into boats but. . . . . . 4 had to be the daily limit I'm sure!

Four young Sitka black-tailed bucks fell upon good luck Sunday as they were pulled from the icy waters of Stephens Passage, Alaska by a group of locals on Tom Satre's 62-foot charter vessel. Four juvenile Sitka black-tailed deer swam directly toward the boat..http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/neologist/Thebestday1.jpg
Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at the humans on board. Clearly, the bucks were distressed. With help, the typically skittish and absolutely wild animals came willingly onto the boat. Once onboard, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering.

Here the rescued bucks rest on the back of Tom Satre's boat, the Alaska Quest. All four deer were transported to Taku Harbour . Once the group reached the dock, the first buck that had been pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back, then leapt into the harbour, swam to shore, and disappeared into the forest. After a bit of prodding and assistance from the humans, two others followed suit, but one

deer needed more help. Here he is being transported by Tom Satre
http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/neologist/Thebestday4.jpg
Tom, Anna and Tim Satre help the last of the "button" bucks to its feet. They did not know how long the deer had been in the icy waters or if there had been others who did not survive. The good Samaritans (humans) describe their experience as "one of those defining moments in life." I'm sure it was for the deer, as well.
I don't know the folks, but I thought it would be a good story to forward.

@djjd62,
That is a great story. So many people think animals only have instincts and no real sense of being able to reason. Stories like this definitely prove, to me anyway, animals can think and reason.

@djjd62,
That is a great story.

Here's another one that happened this week. A calf was rescued off the ice with the help of the wind from a helicopter.

Hamburgboy, Dem otters have faces to die for. Wonderful. Thanks.

dj, Thanks mucho for copying that story to this thread. I never would have opened a thread that I thought was about fishing. (I've been fishing three times. First time, nothing. Second time, I was supposed to steer the boat. My first experience behind the wheel of anything. It's a good thing there wasn't a lot of traffic. Third time, I caught a fish! As I reeled it out of the water, I started yelling, "It's drowning. It's drowning." We let it go. But I digress.) As I said on the original thread, I'm stunned that wild animals would seek help from humans. Amazing.

Firefly, Another wonderful story. Thanks mucho for posting it.

Arella Mae, There are showers, and then there are showers. That looks like fun.

Big time smiling go on here in the Big Apple. Love this stuff.

Photographer’s notes: This water otter was standing up with his hands rubbing each other waiting for people to give him food, which is not allowed. That explains the sad face.
