Only in the most anatomically technical sense - some fish are ambulatory and have appendages that function as legs.

@hingehead,
dj, Thanks for those sleeping bunnies. They look thoroughly relaxed. Maybe next time I'll try lying on my back with my arms and legs pointing upward.

Rosborne, Wonderful bears. I've seen that fish with the red lips. Seen film of them walking around. They are a sight. The mantas are spectacular, flying through the water and the air. But my favorite shot, something I've never seen before, is the golden rays. Absolutely beautiful. I'm grateful, kid.

tsar, Mingus is a star. No doubt about it. Of course I do love dem boids, so I might be just a bit biased. The bunny in the Santa suit is a cutie. I'm usually not a fan of animals in clothes, but there are exceptions to everything, especially when the adorable level is off the scale. I'm glad the marmoset was rescued. These are very small but wonderful animals. Here's one not obscured by hair--golden marmoset:

osso, Yes, pottos are primates. And cute and slow, but not entirely helpless. Thanks for the picture and the info, kid.

reg, That is one big mouth. Those are some sharp teeth. Great shot. Thanks mucho.

Hingehead, Fins that function as legs are still fins. There are all kinds of ambulatory fish. Evolution in action? Quien sabe?

Check out http://www.mycorgi.com/forum/topics/does-anyone-elses-corgis-sleep?id=1150197%3ATopic%3A309745&page=1#comments

One poster posits that they sleep this way to relieve stress on their long backs.
Pacco often rested this way, but his feet tended to stick straight up.

I tried to show a photo of one with similar to Pacco's posture but it showed up way too large, and putting it on photobucket made it not show up on a2k. The one most like Pacco, at least as far as I checked, was on page 3, by Bev Levy. But as I look at all the photos, the postures are all very familiar.

@ossobuco,

My poodle sometimes sleeps on her back with her front legs, or just one leg, extended in the air. She only does this when she's sleeping on the bed, never anywhere else. I assume she does that because she's comfortable in that position. A previous poodle, who had significant back problems, never slept that way.
I would think that sleeping flat on the back is more stressful on the back--it is on mine.

An elusive Saharan cheetah recently came into the spotlight in Niger, Africa, where a hidden camera snapped photos of the ghostly cat, whose pale coat and emaciated appearance distinguish it from other cheetahs.

In one of the images the sleek, light-colored cat with small spots on its coat and a small head is turning in the direction of the camera, its eyes aglow.

What’s with the donkey in the parking lot?
By Eric Marrapodi, CNN Belief blog Co-Editor

It was a brisk December night, and Little Bit, a pregnant Sicilian miniature donkey, was munching hay as little children poked and pet her.

She looked like she could go into labor at any moment there in the parking lot, which an Alexandria, Virginia, church was using for a live nativity scene.

There was no rest for the weary. Little Bit’s schedule was packed. Most weekends, she was double-booked through Christmas Eve.

On average, she and her cohorts at Leesburg Animal Park in Leesburg, Virginia, do 35 to 40 live nativity scenes a year. On Christmas Eve, they have five appointments on the calendar.

“I think it just gives you a better feel what it would have been like, actually giving birth in a manger. It gives you a realistic sense of what it was like,” said Shirley Johnson, the manager of the animal park.

“Animals break down all sorts of barriers. When kids can come up and pet them, it just creates this nice social atmosphere,” Johnson said.

@Arella Mae,
Hey Roberta! Glad to read you. Can't remember the last time it's been. Seem like months....

Arella, that's a wonderful donkey story. You can see the mother loves her little foal.

@tsarstepan,
Sorry if I've seemed absent, tsar. I read. I look. My sleeping habits have been disrupted. Walking around like a zombie, but without the dead part.

Arella Mae, Never thought I'd be eager to see a commercial. Never saw the snowball fight. Loved it. Gonna watch it again.

That little donkey is wonderful. Thanks for sharing that with us.

The Saharan cheetah. What a ghostly picture. What a rare and endangered animal. Found a photo taken in the daylight. It looks more cheetahish.
