@Roberta,
Don't worry, I told Anna I was taking it before I did. I love the lemurs. They have so much personality in their little faces.

Two startled women remain frozen in their seats as a wild elephant moves to within just three feet of their veranda. Photographer Marsel van Oosten grabbed his camera as he saw the male African elephant approaching his wife Danilla Sibbing (left) and lodge owner Lana De Villiers at the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia.

dj, How I love dem boids. And how lucky you are to see them in the flesh. Thanks for sharing.

Euro, Welcome to this thread. Truly wonderful pictures. Thanks so much for posting them. I think I want that white dog.

Irish, Hair-raising. Scary. Great shot. Are those two women still alive?

Shocked OMG! It was a white wolf! My friend, Pam and her husband and I went riding last weekend. A woodchipper didn't scare the horses nor did the six little dogs barking and nipping at the horses legs scare them. But, we can around this bend and standing there was (I thought it was a dog) but I can now say after looking at that picture that it was a wolf! All three horses were facing one way one second and the other way the next. That wolf didn't make a sound and it followed us quite aways. We had a hard time keeping the horses from running.

@Izzie,
DJ, I'm jealous of your ability to attract birds. I need a way to hang a bird feeder outside my kitchen window.

Roberta, that white wolf is quite beautiful.

Izzie? Is that cat/mouse chase a real or photoshopped pic? I love that squirrel shot! Poor exhausted thing! Confused

That elephant pic scares the doody out of me. Holy moley. I'm staying in Noo Yawk.

Missed the cat and mouse the first time around. Nature. Ain't it grand? The mouse gets away, the cat goes hungry. The cat gets its prey, the mouse is dead. No matter who you root for, somebody loses. I'm trying not to root.

Arella Mae, You live where there are wolves? Shocked Well, it's beats living where there are elephants.

@Roberta,
BTW, I once petted an elephant (named Tuss) at the Bronx Zoo. She was a sweet, dear animal who had annual tug of war matches with the Fordham University football team. She never lost.

Despite all this, I was scared to be near such an enormous animal. The keeper was encouraging. Glad I petted her on her trunk.

Just googled Tuss, looking for a pic. She died a few years ago. Sigh.

@Roberta,
I once rode a bull elephant that had just killed its mahout two days before and had been issued a new one. Because the bull was the lead elephant, the mahout who rode it was the senior mahout. This was a promotion for him, and he was wearing his sunday best to impress the boss. All the other mahouts were teasing him. When we came to a river bank the bull dropped down on his front elbows on the slope so we were almost vertically hanging onto his back. Without hesitation, the mahout took his iron club and hit him on the top of his skull to wake him up. I thought that this is the end, but the bull gave a little snort and got back up on his front feet. The mahouts had to learn hindi commands because that was what all the elephants spoke.... Very Happy

Ionus, No bilingual elephants. Shocking.

Actually, I'm impressed as hell that you had such an experience. Also maybe just a little green with envy. Thanks for telling us about that.

Two huge coastal brown bears wrestle in a bid to improve their strength. Brave photographer Christopher Dodds got within yards of the dangerous animals at Katmai National Park in Alaska, United States...

...The brothers, weighing a staggering 635kg (100 stones) each, give each other a hug as they regain their breath after a tiring 50-minute play fight. Christopher, a professional photographer and safari leader, said: "Photographing bears requires a good understanding of their behaviour and I recognised this as a fight between two siblings. The fight got rougher and rougher and louder and louder until they started to get tired. Then they hugged and recovered for a few minutes at a time, so they could start fighting again."
