Thanks for letting me know about the serval, dj. That's the second time that picture has disappeared. Thanks for the replacement. All wild animals are wild animals. Shouldn't be pets.

Also, thanks for the photos and the info about the toygers. They're cute/beautiful. This hybrid makes me uncomfortable, but I'm not sure why. I need to ponder.

Here's another serval. I have the feeling that the images from the site I got if from will not be stable.

agreed about the wild animal bit, the servals get quite big, the woman i worked with was about 5 foot six inches or so, the male she had could stand on it's hind legs, put his paws on her shoulders and look her in the face, that's a big cat

A very big cat. Your description reminded me of a time I visited a cousin who had large dogs. One of his malamutes stood on his hind legs and was considerably taller than me (5'6"). That's a big dog. Not the biggest, but it left an impression. (My cousin had great Danes too, but none of them ever chose to stand face to face with me.)

Capybara, the world's largest rodent.

There seems to be a bit of disagreement about the smallest rodent. The consensus is the Eurasian harvest mouse.

Did a bit of poking around, dj. These mice are nocturnal. Need big eyes and ears to see and hear what's going on.

Male cuckoo wrasse in mating mode. When they're not looking for a mate, their colors are much more subdued

An Indian roller. These little birds are truly beautiful. I wonder what they sound like.

Canada goose. I used to see these waddling around the north Bronx when I went to visit my parents. I guess Co-op City was on their migration route.

Osso, I took the liberty of picking up the photo and entering it here. Hope you don't mind.

Interestingly enough I have the opinion that the more drab a bird looks the more beautiful its song will be. A function of evolution? Contact need to be maintained even whilst camouflaged in the trees.

I've never heard a nightingale, but rumor has it that they have a beautiful song.

This is a pretty little bird but doesn't have the color of many of the others.
