Francis, I didn't mean to make you sad. (Poor little bear.) I'm just trying to keep photoshopped and nonnatural pictures off this thread. My human persona is excellent at Bronx cheers. My avatar persona is very good at snarling.

Letty, That's a doozy of a hyena picture. And it looks like a war torn hyena (note the ears).

Deb, Tres wonderful lovey dovey animals. I'm not gonna ask about what looks like human legs. Sometimes ignorance ain't bliss; sometimes it is.

@dlowan,
Scratch that, deb. I was looking at the picture from the wrong perspective. Now all is clear.

Thanks, olga, for the winter scene. Dem squirrels always seem to know where the nuts are.

a cutie from the outtakes of SF Chronicle photographers -

Little Greeting - 3:30pm - Ghiradelli Square. I was walking through Ghiradelli Square when I spotted two youngsters with pink jackets, Jillian Kusa on the right is 2 1/2 years old and Pumpkin on the left is 3 months old, greeting each other.

Rats - 1.22 p.m.- Market and Powell Streets. San Francisco is full of characters and the Rat Lady is par for the course. She raised Thor the rat from a baby and it helps to know that Thor is just 1 of 20 or so rat's she totes around with her everyday. She would make a great The City Exposed someday if I could ever get over my fear of rodents.

Chicken Little - 11:21 a.m. - The Little Farm at Tilden Park. During a visit inside the small red barn, I was greeted by one of the locals who was just passing through.
Camera settings: ISO 200, f4, 1/80, Canon EOS 1D Mark III

Pigeons and shopping bags - 1:22 p.m. - Market and Castro Streets. While starting a photo essay to compliment a piece Carl Nolte is writing on the many personalities of San Francisco's Market Street I noticed a man waiting to cross the street with his groceries. It was the pigeons and the crisscrossing sidewalk cracks that help the composition. Interestingly enough if you look closely you'll notice no bird comes in contact with a crack. Weird right?

@emshae,
You shouldn't propagate rumors you just heard about, probably on the internet.

Arabian horses carry their tail up naturally.

Some people just incise the tail muscle of other breeds and maintain the tail with a harness till the muscle heals, keeping the tail up.

But those are marginal practices..

@Francis,
Yes, Arabian horses' tails are up naturally. Didn't know about the other practices, Francis. Don't like it, but thanks for the info.

Izzie, Love dem ducks.

osso. Thanks for the wonderful pics. Staring carefully at the pigeons. Are they avoiding the cracks? Not sure. Interesting idea, though.
