dj, Thanks for the wonderful pix and the great site. Already skimmed though it. Why are baby animals so damned cute? It's a conspiracy, I tell ya. Irresistible.
Already the smallest monkey in the world, these baby marmosets are absolutely itty-bitty. The tiny baby pygmy marmosets can only currently be spotted by very keen-eyed visitors to the Lakes Aquarium in the UK. They appear as furry lumps on the backs of their parents " most often their father.
These little babies only weight half an ounce!

My cup runneth over--cuteness-wise, dj, and beauty-wise, Robert.
I realize that your question on why baby animals are so cute was rhetorical, but there really are good answers supplied by Konrad Lorenz and Stepehn Jay Gould involving our anthropomorphizing of animals that have human infantile characteristics. In case anybody's interested here are the websites: http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Cuteness
coluber, I actually knew about Konrad Lorenz's theory. Read his work many years ago. So I understand at least an idea of why baby animals are so cute, but it doesn't lessen their impact on my. Love dem cuties.

Raboida, I sometimes forget that there are places on a2k that are like a refuge from the stress of other threads. I'm glad I found this thread again, it is one of my favorites.

Diane, I'm glad you like this thread. It's a refuge for me, too. Thanks for the two sea critters.
