Lord E: I LOVE dat dawg. Is it a shar pei? Or just a regular dog with a lot of "flaps"?

Rosborne, Is the woodpecker just a bit confused?

Bella dea, I like wombats too. I'm sure that Aussies love their wombats. Dadpad was posting animals from Oz in honor of Australia Day. Omitted wombats. So djjd posted the photo of the wombat I want. Now we've got two with the wombat you posted. BTW, if I can't have the wombat in the first picture, I'd be happy to have the one in the photo you posted.

Waaaah. I want a wombat. Crying or Very sad NOW! Would this work in a small Manhattan apartment? Don't care.

I've regained my composure. The blue-ringed octopus is poisonous and is found off the coast of Australia.

Fisher cats (M. Pennanti) are making a come back in Massachusetts. I have read articles, heard tales and now have finally seen one myself. Unfortunately it was dead. Most of those which are seen here are dead. There seems to be a lot of confusion online about this animal. I saw a couple photos of foxes labelled as fishers. I saw some creatures that looked more like mink or wolverines listed as fishers. But then, I'm no fisher expert and I don't know how much variation in appearance they have.

littlek, I just did some online reading about fishers in addition to what I read in my handy-dandy mammals book. Athough they are occasionally referred to as fisher-cats, they are no relation to cats. They are in the marten family. Their appearance varies only in color, not in body shape. Minks are much smaller and more like weasels. Wolverines are bigger and have different coloring. I'm glad to hear that fishers are making a comeback.

I love quirky animals. Take this baby Aye aye, from Madagascar, for instance.......

littlek, Sorry if I gave you info about the fisher you already had. And sorry that you're finding them as roadkill.

LE, Love dem aye-ayes. They're another animal that turns up in crossword puzzles (usually spelled ai-ai in puzzles). Here's a grown-up and slightly hairier version.
