Yesterday I was walking down a street that had some major construction going on. Jackhammers, loud machine engines, NOISE. There was a brief lull, and I heard the chirp of a sparrow. I looked around, but couldn't see it. Heard another chirp before the jackhammers resumed. Loved dat boid. It made me smile.

I have a 'pet' sparrow that comes into my workplace every day. I gave him some bread once and he is now a professional scrounger. He hops around the place as if he owns it and has been named 'Numpty'.

Heya, Alex. That red kangaroo is a macho kinda guy. And interesting looking with his dark head and light body.

I'm a fan of birds with gumption. My best to Numpty. The gumptioniest pet I eve had was a parakeet named Billie. She was the alpha of the household. Totally in charge. Her wish was our command. And she tormented the poor dog. Loved dat boid. I know I say that a lot, but this was personal.

jes, I was putting a container of milk away. On the trip from the living room to the kitchen, the word skink popped into my head. Hence:

Very impressive-looking bird, reg. Thanks, kid. I'm an urban kid, and pigeons are the ultimate urban bird. I remember the first time I saw a pigeon sitting on the branch of a tree, I stopped for a second and wondered what was wrong with that picture. Incongruous. Pigeons belong on ledges and fire escapes. Not in trees.

Speaking of urban wildlife, here's a relatively new resident of the Big Apple. Building a dam on the Bronx River.

Shucks, reg's fantail looks a bit 'disorganised' Laughing

Your beaver looks nice, Roberta...or is it an otter? Embarrassed

These are kakapo. They were declared extinct about 100 years, but rediscovered in the 1940s in a remote part of New Zealand. There are 86 of them in existence today:

Tigershark, I tried to find a more organized looking pigeon of the same breed. No luck. Not a lot of pix of these.

Thanks for the kakapos. Amazing camouflage. I knew of their existence, but I didn't know they are flightless.

The following two pictures are photography prize winners.

Fantails, other than white ones, always look a bit "desorganized":

Thanks, Francis. The fantails in the link are a bit more organized looking.

What's with the "remote linking" warning? Is something going to explode?

Usually it has to do with ActiveX controls, which can damage your computer..

Should I be worried? I opened the links? Now I'm nervous.

Don't be, it seldom does harm.

Anyway, remember to use the precaution principle: if you don't know, don't do.

Thanks for the tip. I thought it was some kind of mistake. I'll be more careful in the future.
