@edgarblythe,
I was driving westbound on Highway 403 at 6:30 this morning when, much to my surprise, Burl Ives comes on the radio singing Holly Jolly Christmas.

I almost went into the ditch. My first thought, after I recovered, was of Edgar.

@Intrepid,
I have yet to listen to it this year. I actually do like the song, but that one year they played it way too much, even for me.

My husband watches that insipid Rudolph thing every year. He says it reminds him of his childhood. I heard the Burl Ives Holly Jolly being blared at a gas station last week. Some guy pumping fuel into an old Ford Fiesta was singing along. It was quaint.

Say, does anyone know the words to Holly Jolly Christmas?

I haven't heard that in ages.

2008: I had my Edgar moment in the grocery store. 'twas surreal (almost) thinking of edgar as I did a little shoulder bop, all alone in aisle seven.

I like the Christmas Eve itself. Dinner is always special and something to look forward to. Each year I cherish it more - who knows how many Christmas eves I have left with my parents, I appreciate rituals that make us stop and take in the moment and realize the life priorities.
I love giving presents, in fact I go overboard every year. I HATE the crowds though. But I pick stuff up on the go here and there throughout the year, thus when Christmas rolls by, I usually have a stash of effortlessly acquired stuff already. I do have to endure at least one round of last minute stuff, but that's bearable.

The songs though..... make them stop! They make me feel violent.

Have a holly jolly Christmas
It's the best time of the year
Well I don't know if there'll be snow
But have a cup of cheer

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And when you walk down the street
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet

Ho ho the mistletoe
Hung where you can see
Somebody waits for you
Kiss her once for me

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And in case you didn't hear
Oh bygolly have a holly jolly Christmas
This year

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And when you walk down the street
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And in case you didn't hear
Oh bygolly have a holly jolly Christmas
This year
